Arte Vida: Actions by Artists of the Americas, 19602000
This is an important exhibition, I think, because it shows a pivotal moment in art history that is rarely explored action art being done by Latin Americans, Latinos, and artists of Caribbean descent. These artists really blurred the line between art and activism, and in doing so, they opened up new possibilities for artistic expression. The fact that it covers nearly the entire last half of the 20th century a time of political turmoil around the world means that we can learn a lot about these events by studying these artists reaction to them. The show also makes you question why there is not more action art being done nowadays, in the wake of the catastrophic events that are happening around the globe, such as war and famine.
