4. Artistic Process

A central aspect of this work that affected the artistic process is the large size of the canvas, which measured 3.5 by 7.8 meters. (Boeck, and Sabarts 225) This size therefore necessitates a process of intense composition and sketching before the final process resulted in the completed work. The painting underwent numerous revisions until Picasso was satisfied with the structure and the general composition of the work. (Larrea 11)
