Human Resource Management

One positive experience I had in the area of Human Resource Management occurred during my first week at a new organization. Though the job itself was far from complex and took less than a day of group training, the company spent a week of half-days (with full pay) on orientation and training not only on the job-specific elements of employment with the company, but also on the values, practices, and strategies of the company as a whole. This type of HR development led initially to a highly motivated and well-respected workforce. Over time, however, the level of HR development began to be more a matter of micro-management and control. This led to an environment that did not respect individuality, and had little room for personal growth, innovation, or self-direction. Remaining fully committed to integration without the need for indoctrination would have been more beneficial.
Throughout both the positive and negative experiences with this specific organization, HRM was certainly seen by the company as of great strategic importance.
