...... However ethnic elements are not limited to this particular category. They include factors, designs, colours etc from the past, from architecture and also from arts and local preferences. Not all of them are easily recognizable by the mass public. The degree of recognisability does not however influence their aesthetic dimension. The designers under analysis all use ethnic elements but in a very refined and subtle manner. Their intention is not to communicate a fully Turkish identity through their creations, but to distinguish themselves from the others and demonstrate their talent and capacities. While the ethnic influence has a common nominator, their influences vary from the architecture of Istanbul to the ancient wear of the Ottoman Empire
What these designers have in common, besides being Turkish and successful is an intelligent marketing strategy. The use of ethnic elements in a subtle manner, together with their personal talents and smart marketing moves have gotten them into the spotlight. It is important to underline the fact that none of them wished to be positioned as a Turkish designer and all of them are trying really hard to differentiate himself from the other Turks in the fashion industry......
