Bacons Seated Figure (1961) appears to be about the loss of the self, as Alphen (1993) notes in his book. The painting also appears to be about torment and fragmentation as the face of the man looks tormented and there is a definite fragmentation when considering the difference between the face, body and environment in the painting......
