4. The social norms marketing approach has been generally stated as effective in reducing alcohol consumption amongst college students. However, in the study conducted by Wechsler et al. (2003) where 37 college students utilized the marketing approach whilst 61 college students did not, no effective alcohol-reducing reductions were found even when student exposure and length of program existence were computed. On the contrary, increased alcohol consumption was found in schools employing the marketing approach. The authors, consequently, conclude the social norms program to be ineffective in reducing alcohol consumption amongst college students......
