What it means to be the Leader or Manager

......It has often been said that leadership is who you are and management is what you do. As a result, there are a multitude of different concepts, definitions and frameworks used to define leadership. One of the more comprehensive definitions states that a leader is one that selects, trains, equips and influences their followers, many of which who have diverse skill sets, focusing followers to the organizations mission and objectives (Parolini, Patterson, Winston, et.al.). Leaders are best known for their ability to gain followers enthusiastic support, where significant amounts of spiritual, emotional and psychical energy are expended to in a coordinated effort to achieve organizational goals and objectives (Parolini, Patterson, Winston, et.al.). Leaders also have the innate ability to illustrate to every follower just how critically important their contributions and roles are to the overall vision being achieved in the shortest possible time, including how their commitments make a major difference in the entire operation succeeding (Pieterse, van Knippenberg, Schippers, Stam, 609). In short, leaders have an innate ability to define compelling visions, provide followers with very specific definitions of their roles in its accomplishment, and inspire exceptional levels of trust in the process (Sharkie, 488, 489)
