Excerpt from Research Proposal:
Comparacy of the influences of french and american revolutions on the political cultures or foreign policies today
...... Both of these revolutions shaped the political culture of the U.S., putting an emphasis on individual freedom (Hook 2007, 158). Stanfield (2001, 20) notes that by the year 1793, the French Revolution and subsequent wars in Europe dominated Americas foreign policy. Since the French provided substantial help to America in her Revolutionary War, the American public saw the French Revolution as a continuation and vindication of the American Revolution (2001, 20). After the 9/11 attacks, public diplomacy burst onto Americas radar as if it was something new when, in actuality, the American and French Revolutions are testaments to public diplomacys importance in foreign policy (Zaharna 2010, 73). What we can learn from both the American and French Revolutions is that foreign policy is not immune from the impact of values, ideas, initiatives and upheavals (Hill 2003, 222)
