Diversity Statement:
The educational experience is not strictly defined by academic pursuits. As a recent arrival in this country, that is something which I have learned firsthand. While attending Santa Monica College, I have come to thrive in a context where diversity is valued and explored. Though certain social, cultural and linguistic challenges distinguished my first year here, I soon found that I had truly begun to grow as a person. Beyond overcoming the obvious difficulties in adjusting to a new country and culture, I also learned to appreciate the alternate perspectives, experiential differences and even philosophical distinctions of my newly diverse array of friends and relations.
In many ways, this is what has directed my attention to the vaunted University of Michigan, highly regarded for its appeal to diversity and the construction of a harmonious living atmosphere. The opportunity to be exposed to new cultures and to be placed into contact with individuals of all manner of background is especially appealing in my projected profession. With the global economy increasingly coming to define the world of finance, my intense passion for economy and finance studies will be better facilitated in an educational context where members of the global community
