...... In theory, the World Trade Organization is in place to ensure that the mutual benefits of globalization are felt. An international economic lawmaking body, its primary function is to bring a streamline of compromise to proceedings between international parties. In cases where larger economic partners can be evidenced to be encroaching on the rights of smaller partners, and likewise where the interests of two large-scale economies cause friction with one another, the WTO is expected to step in and intervene. Thus, as regards outsourcing, there does exist a governing body designed to act on the behalf of the positive agenda of globalization. Still, our review demonstrates, it has not always been entirely effective in preventing the imbalances which have been part and parcel to globalization. The U.S., for example, as the worlds largest market economy, has often achieved its interests and those of its corporate leaders at the expense of economic, environmental and humanitarian interests abroad. In some manifestations of free trade, the United States, through the practice of outsourcing, has employed extremely cheap foreign labor in order to drive down its domestic consumer prices, thereby undercutting domestically-producing competition.
