There is no support for XML integration, no reporting, no functionality for Gannt chart, PERT, or time-based reporting by deadlines, and in general a complete lack of support for gaining an overview of all projects. The listing of all projects by status is a simple HTML generated list that could be easily created by Yahoo's SiteBuilder applications (free from Yahoo) for example. There is also no way to segment out projects by their status or not. All of these limitations could potentially create a high level of security violations as there are no individualized project status definitions apparently in the application. Once someone gains access to even a single project, they can easily get to all projects in the entire system. This application therefore lacks security as well. There are many other limitations from a project management standpoint and collaboration perspective as well including a lack of support for integrating even the simplest PayPal payment back to other systems like Quicken or other personal finance applications. There is no fraud detection on this website either meaning that once a person's e-mail address is associated with the person and project, the potential of identity...

The demo account showing projects has not been cleaned out since June 13, 2004 which leads one to believe this is an abandoned application and website.
Relevance to this course

Studying PlanProjects is interesting in that it shows why a Web-based application for collaboration or even low-end task management should never be abandoned. The pace of technological change is quickening and the site could have been done in Google APIs probably in a fraction of the time it was created in HTML four or five years ago. The site also is a strong reminder that the selection of online tools needs to be carefully considered as it is clear not much, if any, development is occurring on this site right now.

Assessment of Exercise - Highly relevant to the study of the course as it shows why it is very important to evaluate the viability of vendors before signing up with them. PlanProjects.com is apparently for sale, has 718 users, generates $300 a year in Google AdSense revenue, and has had the Forums shut down due to spam. See the discussion here:

JASONALDEAN.COM Website Critique Memo When first arriving on the home page of the website for the country music artist, Jason Aldean, I was reminded of colored fluorescent lights commonly found in honky-tonk districts or at cheap roadside motels along lonely two-lane highways. This image was spurred by the background graphics that appeared to be an artistic rendering of a photo for an entrance to an old amusement park or county fairgrounds. The

Engagement Comments There are numerous interactive activities which may be engaged in on the site. There are however some sections of the site which may not be so engaging for children as they are quite dry. For example some of the historical documents which are presented have no interactivity associated and may only be read as the paper versions. Navigation Comments There are clear menus presented down the side to access different areas of the

Weddings by Alice Web Site Evaluation This paper reviews a wedding planner's website, Weddings by Alice, located at this URL: http://www.weddingsbyalice.com/. The review covers architecture as well as design elements, including site organization, navigation, page layout, and graphic content. Our analysis also discusses effective design principles, and we cite examples where they were followed and where they were not. Throughout the paper we make a series of suggestions for improvement.

The site has also been designed to allow for browsing through a content-based taxonomy that makes the task of finding book areas of interest easily accomplished. This site also works to create a multichannel selling strategy by listing local bookstores retrieved when a visitor types in their postal code, and lists book signing in their area as well. What differentiates this site from many other book-selling sites throughout Australia

Cisco.com for example has an entirely separate mini-site dedicated only to corporate social responsibility (CSR). PetsMart is deficient in this area as well; they could work to create a more interactive online experience for people visiting their site. There are no links to ask for donations for non-profit organizations; this would be a major improvement in the site design. Finally on business ethics, PetsMart has gone to the extent
