Since a peer reviewed article suggests that it was submitted to a committee or expert(s) in the study s field, knowing that the article was published through a major university also lends credence to the belief that the study was peer reviewed. There was no immediate indication that the researcher(s) had introduced any bias into the way the study was designed, in fact, the methodology used seemed to be perfectly acceptable for this type of study. There also seemed to be little in the way of concern for financial gain from the results of the study. Because the study sought qualitative data from individual caregivers, there was little if any financial gains to be gotten by anyone associated with the study.

2nd Study

The purpose of the was to  examine effectiveness of postdischargetelemonitoring by an APN on reducing subsequent hospital readmissions, emergency department visits, and costs and increasing the time between discharge and readmission among older adults with Heart Failure (HF). Secondary study considerations included the examination of depressive symptomatology, quality of life, caregiver mastery, and social support for HF patients.

The implicit research question seemed to by whether an alternative strategy such as the use of an electronic home monitoring intervention would be cost-effective and efficient regarding the medical treatment(s) of HF patients.

The researchers set up the study in a very quantitative manner. The data that was collected was numerical and was able to be categorized, labeled and analyzed in numerical fashion. Some of the quantitative characteristics included questions that were asked which could only be answered by  yes or no answers, documented home health care treatments and the results, a baseline was established and comparisons (to the baseline) were made throughout the study, a quality of life was measured with  18 items from the Minnesota Living with HF questionnaire (p. 21) and finally the results were presented in chart fashion with numerical analysis.

The study was very prospective in that it defined what the prospects of intervention are for the future and how they would (or could) affect caregivers and patients with HF.
