In her article, "Aftermath of Aftermath- Unanswered Questions from 9-11 -from an organizer's point-of-view" the military could have done more. In particular the author asserts that General Myers who controlled such military operations, couls have done more to prevent the attacks (Brouillet). Instead the general was awarded one of the highest military honors for his inaction prior to 9/11 (Brouillet). The author also explain that she organized rallies and showecd people a film entitled "The Great Deception" which was the first televised show that contradicted the claims that were being made by the mainstream media in the aftermath of 9/11.

Mark Dunlea is one of the most outspoken voices on the events of September 11 and the lack of cooperation from the Bush administration in reference to a bipartisan review of the terrorist attacks. Dunlea is a member of the Green Party of New York city. In fact, Mark Dunlea has written a book entitled "Madame President: The Unauthorized Biography of the First Green Party President" that offers an alternative history of September 11. The book creates a scenario in which the 2000 Presidential election is resolved by the Electoral College instead of the Supreme Court. In his scenario a member of the green party, Rachel Moreno is selected as vice-President as a substitution for giving the Democrats their ten electoral votes for president. Eventually the president dies in August 2001 and Rachel Moreno becomes president.

The book explores what Moreno would have done differently on September 11 if she was the president. In this scenario, one of the planes is shot down and the president immediately pursues Bin Laden. The book also asserts that such conflicts would be contained to terrorists and that the United States would not go to war with entire countries. The author asserts that the Green party president would always attempt to solve problems diplomatically. The book also explores further the perceived cover up propagated by the Bush administration.

The most well-known media associated with alternative history of September 11, is the Documentary Fahrenheit 9/11. The film is the most viewed documentary ever and has been seen throughout the world.

This particular documentary was produced by Michael Moore and sought to explore the events of 9/11 and their aftermath. Moore found that many of the aforementioned scenarios were true and that the president's reasons for entering into Iraq had nothing to do with September 11.

Within the documentary, Moore shows some of the warning signs that should have alerted the Bush administration that a terror attack was imminent. The documentary also demonstrated how ill prepared the country was to deal with such a catastrophe (Moore, 2003). The film demonstrates the time that lapse between when the president was told that a plan hit the World Trade Center and the time that he reacted to the news (Moore, 2003). The director demonstrated that the air traffic controllers were unaware of whom to contact in case of a hijacking. In addition, it illustrated that the appropriate agencies failed to scramble jets that could have shot the hijacked planes down before they demolished any more structures (Moore, 2003).

The director was able to show the lack of coordination between the intelligence agencies. In addition, it displayed the actions of the Bush administration in the months prior to the terrorist attacks (Moore, 2003). The documentary demonstrated the lack of concern that the administration had about the risk of a terrorist attack (Moore, 2003). The director asserted that all the intelligence information that the White house received pointed to the possibility that an attack would occur on American soil (Moore, 2003). However, the administration did nothing to stop that attack from occurring. Neither did they warn the American people that such an attack was imminent (Moore, 2003).

The documentary also discusses how 9/11 contributed to the President declaring war on Iraq. The documentary asserts that the President is simply attempting to control oil supplies and catering the desires of big business. Large corporations such as Halliburton have been granted exclusive contracts in Iraq which have greatly benefited the country. The film also questions the presidents military records and his connection with the Saudi Royal family.

One of the most starting facts that were brought to light in the documentary is the Bush administrations unwillingness to question members of Osama Bin Ladens family, many of whom were in the United States, in the immediate aftermath of the attacks. On the contrary, they were put on planes and sent out of the country before they were even questioned concerning the whereabouts of Bin Laden. So the question remains; Why would Bush and his administration allow the relatives of Bin Laden leave the country without being questioned concerning his whereabouts?

These questions and many others that arose because of this documentary have yet to be answered. Michael Moore is a known liberal so many of his commentary should be taken with a grain of salt. However, there are certain facts that he presented in this documentary that can not be ignored. These facts have sueld alternative histories of the events that took place on September 11.

Discussion and conclusion

As you can see alternative histories of September 11 abound and are fueled by a myriad of unanswered questions and mysterious happenings. The purpose of this discussion was to explore the alternative histories of September 11 that have been propagated through the media and in books. This discussion provided an overview of many different scenarios. The discussion found that one of the main alternative histories asserts that the attack was actually carried out by the government in an effort to silence certain CIA operatives. In addition, some alternative histories suggests that the pentagon was not hit by a plane but rather a missile or a bomb.

Another alternative asserts that the Bush Administration knew that the country would be attacked and allowed the attack to take place so that we could invade the countries and secure control over oil supplies. This theory contends that the administration did not think that the attack would be as severe as it was and they allowed it to happen. In return, the government hoped to gain access to oil in these regions.

The most popular and documented alternative history is that the Bush administration had been warned repeatedly by domestic intelligence agencies and foreign intelligence agencies that there was a serious threat to America and simply failed to act. We also found that a book was written in which the author explores what would have happened on 9/11 if someone else was president. In this scenario, one of the planes was shot down and Bin Laden was pursued immediately. Overall, it seems that alternative histories concerning 9/11 will continue for years to come.
