College athletes have displayed their talents to the entire public who enjoy watching them perform. In the professional leagues or sporting activities, sportsmen get pay for their efforts and talents in entertaining the public. Sports acts as a source of income to the participants in the league. It is a different scenario or event when it comes to NCAA management league. Students do not obtain pay for their services, efforts, talents, and entertainment show to the public. This condition within the college league creates the diabolical debate on whether the students should obtain pay for their participation in football and basketball leagues. Some scholars argue that students should obtain pay for their efforts and talents while the other group of intellectuals maintains that college athletes should be contented with what they have as participants. The main problem facing the college league is paying the students participating in the league. This problem draws from different perspectives on why the students are not receiving payment for their talents and entertainment show to the public. The first perspective of the problem is the colleges' view on further rewarding their participants. The second perspective is on the general principles of extra incentives to the students. The third view comes as the football or basketball views depending on the financial conditions and structures. College athletes are not gaining extra payment for their participation in the NCAA league because of benefits they acquire from colleges, the act would incur extra cost on college budgets, and financial structures within the organizations running the leagues cannot sustain their payment.
Students who participate in NCAA league while demonstrating their talents and entertainment talents do not receive payment because of different perspectives or views. The first view of this problem is economical issue or financial structure of the college league association. From every aspect of the society, it is evident that sporting activities generate large sums of money. This money is responsible for management of departments of the universities and colleges. In organizing competitions and participations of the college students, financial contribution is crucial. NCAA uses the money from these college competitions to organize future tournaments and leagues. This indicates that the budget of the association and universities is extremely strict on developing activities within these organizations. Paying college participants would inflict budget constrains in relation to cost of maintenance of universities and colleges. This perspective notes that paying college athletes would increase the overall cost of running learning institutions thus resulting in financial crisis or challenge. The other argument that facilitates this perspective is that in the process of paying college athletes for their participation in basketball and football competitions, other stakeholders who incur the excessive cost. In order to finance the wages or salaries of the college participants, nonparticipant students would have to pay the extra amount for their education. This represents injustice within the learning system since there is no fairness in treating the students in colleges and universities while paying for participations in sporting activities. Financial reasons act as the main reason why college participants do not obtain wages for their efforts and talents (Sack, pg 9).
The second reason why students or college athletes do not earn extra finds from their talents draws from the university or college point-of-view. Talented college students or athletes enjoy numerous advantages or benefits while pursuing their educational dreams. This point-of-view illustrates that college or university education is a privilege in the first place. Majority of society members would give their lives to obtain college or university education. This indicates how beneficial it is to have the chance to attain higher education or knowledge at college or university levels. College participants should enjoy the fact that they are in colleges or universities pursuing their dreams rather than cry foul on the salaries and wages. The college point-of-view approaches education as an incentive available to the athletes thus; they should focus on enjoying this opportunity to the maximum. Another argument from this point-of-view draws from the scholarship available to the student or college athletes. College athletes enjoy sponsorships or educational scholarship hence should not ask for extra benefits while pursuing their dreams in life. College participants also enjoy free accommodation or meals while participating in the college leagues. Free scholarship, accommodation, and meals should act as enough motivation to college athletes to show case their talents while participating in the leagues. This view perceives that paying college athletes would result in to exploitation of the sport and college systems. This is because; free degree (scholarship), accommodation and meals act as their wages hence paying them would infer additional expenses. This would increase disparities between students in colleges and universities (McKinney, pg 25).
The third perspective of the college athletes' payment issue draws from other sporting activities. All students taking part in different sporting activities enjoy educational scholarship, accommodation, and meals. This indicates that basketball, soccer, football, and tennis participants enjoy the same benefits despite the fact that they participate in different sporting activities.
