5. You will not provide any of our materials to anybody else for them to use for academic credit.
Look, we get it. Homework can be a drag, and some people really find writing papers challenging. You may feel like you just do not have the time to finish your own work and want to take the shortcuts. We think every student out there has felt like that at some point in time, and with answers available with just a few keystrokes, the temptation to cheat is stronger than ever. However, taking credit for work that is not yours is just a bad idea. First, it is cheating. It might not feel like cheating to you, especially if you are not taking answers from one of your fellow students, but it almost certainly violates your school’s rules about cheating, which is a very big deal.
When you cheat, you risk getting caught, and getting caught cheating can come with some pretty stiff consequences. It almost always means you get a zero on the assignment, and no matter how worried you are about whatever you could come up with and turn in, it almost certainly would get you a better grade than a zero. That is just the tip of the iceberg. In many schools, cheating can result in failing an entire course or even expulsion, and getting expelled for academic dishonesty is something that can follow you and keep you from getting into other schools. It is a whole can of worms that you do not want to open.
You might think that you are sneaky enough to pull off cheating without anyone knowing, but think about the last time you casually mentioned something to a friend and suddenly you were getting spammed with ads for it on your social media and in your email. The internet has changed things. No one should assume that anything shady they do is going to stay in the dark these days. The internet has made it extremely easy for schools to catch cheaters, because teachers and professors can use the same internet tools people use to cheat to try to detect cheaters.
More importantly than that, when you cheat, you cheat yourself. Knowledge is cumulative, and even if a class seems pointless to you right now, the information or skills you are learning in that class are designed to help you either achieve success in later classes or in an eventual career. The classes you take now are the foundation for your future. If you take the shortcuts and cheat, you are providing yourself with a shaky foundation, and that is no way to build a future. So, resist the temptation to cheat.
