Crime Statistics
The UCR is the official data collection method for reporting crimes known to the police or to the FBI for inclusion in the official crime stats. The NCVS is a survey method to collect data by asking a representative sample of the population about whether they have been the victims of crime. Review the recent crime statistics for each method and compare and contrast the data.
Create a 2- to 3-page report in a Microsoft Word document that includes the answers to the following questions:
?How does the information collected vary in terms of crime rates between UCR and NCVS?
?How are they similar?
?If differences exist, what accounts for the differences?
Support your responses with examples.
Cite any sources in APA format.
Crime Statistics
Part 1
Using the crime statistics from the FBI's UCR, select a city in the United States whose crime stats are available. Then, select three crimes prevalent in the city and discuss their crime rates. In addition, answer the following questions:
?What do you think accounts for these crime?
?How can the city reduce these incidents of crime?
?What are the two reasons because of which people may not report their victimization to the police?
Does the data show the same patterns for violent crimes and property crimes? What could be the possible reasons for this? According to NCVS data, older, white people tend to be more fearful of violent crime victimization. According to your analysis of violent crime victimization rates, what is the basis of their fear? Which segment of the population suffers more violent crime victimization? Does this segment feel as fearful of such victimization as older people? What might be the reasons for this?
Part 2
There is a long-standing stereotype that the poor and minorities are the sources of the majority of crime problems in the United States. Lately, however, there is considerable debate regarding this view, and more broadly, regarding the relationship between social class and crime.
Discuss how each of the following could impact the disproportion between crime across different racial and income groups:
?Police dispersion in poor and minority areas.
?The focus of police on blue-collar crime.
?The outward (on the street) nature of crime in poor areas.
?The hidden nature of white-collar crime.
This is a discussion assignment. Please separate by part 1 and part 2 and please add references in APA. Thank you.
Requirements for Essay
The research question to use is: Is there a relationship between crime rates and abandoned buildings?
The instructions for this essay also includes printing out the statistics used. That is the data source used for this essay. It must include the independent and dependant variables used. Please give a link where if possible i can print out the satitistics used or you can attach it to the paper for me to print it out. This is very important.
How to prepare for this essay: for this assignment you should refer to your research methods and statistics textbook. These are some of the books and articles to use including any other articles.
? Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (APA Manual)
? Gravetter, F. J. & Wallnau, L.B. (2005) Essentials of Statistics for the Behavioral Sciences (5th edition), Belmont, CA: Wadsworth/Thomson Learning.
? Maxfield, M.G. & Babbie, E. (2011) Research Methods for Criminal Justice and Criminology, Belmont, CA: Wadsworth/Thomson Learning.

1. Title page (2 points)
a. See APA handout
2. Research question and hypothesis (10 points)
a. State your research question, hypothesis, and null hypothesis.
b. How do you expect the results to come out? Why? In your answer, be sure to refer to previous research and/or theory to support your answer (using the references from essay 1 and 2).
3. Research Design (40 points)
a. In this section you should describe the research design, variables, and sample for your study. See the research design section of peer-reviewed journal articles to help you structure your own research design.
b. Describe your variables (both independent and dependent). For example, if your topic is homicide, that should be your dependent variable. Your independent variable should be one that is a possible ?cause? of homicide (for example, poverty, lack of education, unemployment).
c. Identify how you will measure both your independent and dependent variables, and how/where you will collect (secondary) data on both. For this part of the design you should locate and discuss your secondary data sources from both your variables. Include both sources as an appendix. For example, if you are using UCR crime rates for your dependent variable you should include the table you plan to use for your analysis as an appendix. Make sure you do the same for the independent variable.
d. Discuss your unit of analysis and your sample.
4. Analysis Procedures (18 points)
a. What statistical procedure will you use to analyze the results? Why? You are allowed to use additional techniques, however you must at least use the following three. It is not enough to just state you will use these three techniques. You must describe what they are, how you will use them with your variables, and why they will be useful in answering your research question.
i. Descriptive statistics
ii. Scatter plot (also known as scatter gram)
iii. Bivariate correlation
b. Refer to a statistics textbook; and research methods textbook (most have an ?analysis of quantitative data? chapter).
5. Limitations & Feasibility (15 points)
a. What are some of the limitation and weaknesses of YOUR proposed research design?
b. Are there any validity problems with the statistics you plan on using? If so discuss them. . For example, many of you might be using a proxy variable (a substitute for what you are really interest in). For example, I might want to study the relationship between gun suicide rates and homicide rates, however data is only available for total suicide rates. I will use total suicide rates as a proxy, however this is problematic so I will discuss it as a limitation. Not all variables we are interested in can be located, using a proxy is acceptable for this assignment.
c. Are there any reliability problems with the statistics you plan on using? You should discuss problems with both variables. Reliability problems with UCR data are the most commonly understood (again, see your research textbook on reliability issues related to UCR data ? if you are using UCR data for your dependent variable).
d. Discuss the feasibility of your study, including reasonableness of approach?can it be carried out or completed without major hindrances; and recognition of potential problems.
6. Spelling and grammar (10 points)
a. Make sure your paper is free of spelling and grammatical errors (use spell check and grammar check).
b. You will also lose points if I cannot understand one or more sentences (those sentences where I note in red ink, ?Not completely clear what you mean here?).
7. Reference Page & Citations (5 points)
a. You need to have a reference list of your citations at the end of the paper. All of your citations should be in the text AND also in your reference list. Everything MUST be in APA format.
Points will be deducted for:
1. Not using subheadings: Papers should include subheadings. Introduce the sections with a subheading. Please the paper will go through the plagiarism software for plagiarism and please in text citations should be adhered to.
Literature Review
For this assignment, you will be writing the first draft of the beginning of your research paper by writing an introduction to the paper and a literature review.
1. You may need to find alternate articles related to crime & halting rising crime rate.
2. Read carefully the FIVE articles you settle on for the paper. PAY PARTICULAR ATTENTION to the ABSTRACT, the INTRODUCTON, and the SUMMARY or CONCLUSIONS. You may not understand all of the statistical results in the articles you choose, but try to get the gist of what the author is saying.
3. Write the introduction to the paper. You should describe the basic research question (topic) you are investigating, your hypothesis, your variables (independent, dependent, and control), the theoretical perspective guiding your research, and the structure of the paper.
4. Aristotle, expand on what you wrote in the draft of your introduction for Abstracts and Introduction Order ID: A2105887 (I will send as a resource)
5. Explain the reasoning behind your hypothesis.
6. Write a summary of what the five articles say about the research question and the hypothesis you are investigating. For each article you should discuss:
a. The research question
b. The research design (method of data collection, sample information, type of analysis)
c. The research findings and conclusions
There are two basic ways of organizing your information: by article or by sub topic.
In the first, you summarize what author A has to say on the subject, then move on to author B, and so forth. Or, you could summarize authors A, B, C, D, and E on sub topic 1 (for example, how they measure the dependent variable you are interested in), then all their statements on sub topic 2, etc. Either way, try to make smooth transitions from one author or sub topic to the next.
7. Finally, write a concluding paragraph for this part of your paper that SUMMARIZES the findings of all five articles and discusses how the literature relates to your hypothesis. Your integrated literature review should:
a. Summarize prior research
b. Critique prior research
c. Present pertinent conclusions
8. The literature review MUST BE in your own words and reflect your understanding of the material.

Go to the Federal Bureau of Investigations Website (www.fbi.gov) and search for crime in the United States. Choose a local police agency and compare the crime rate in 2006 and the number of police officers assigned to that jurisdiction. In a 500 word essay, present an overview of the crime rate and if you believe the number of officers assigned to that jurisdiction is adequate. I would like for this essay not to have any grammatical errors if possible and no passive voice. Thanks again
The theme of this paper should be focused from a diversity and ethics standpoint on how child poverty impacts crime rates in teens and young adults. Previous material explored how recent issues like the financial crisis has impacted unemployment and the mortgage crisis that has lead to in increase in child poverty and homelessness.
The issues act as catalysts that impact children?s? ability to grow and develop in the educational system and how the hardships of child poverty end up leading to high drop out rates, teen/premarital pregnancy and unemployment. Without choice, crime sometimes becomes the only answer.
When it does, what does it lead to and how impactful is the path from poverty to crime in the process?
Topic : More detectives, or other changes in detective work, will not raise clearance rates or lower the crime rate.
I need a work cited page.

This is a paper about the effect of Unemployment on the crime rate in New York city over the past 50-100 years or so (I am flexible about the time period). Part of the paper (almost a quarter) should be about data and stats found and the rest of the paper should be theories that support the statistics. My Hypothesis (which should be at the very beginning) is that an increase in the unemployment rate leads to an increase in the crime rate in NewYork city. The data and the theories following should try to prove this hypothesis. I need three theories that can explain this positive correlation between unemployment rate and crime rate, and it will be good if these theories can be related to the data somehow or another. The conclusion can be as short as one or two paragraphs, summarizing the findings of the paper. I would also like to have a paragraph about the nature of the resources used, whether books, journals, articles, etc..
i need a literature review that is ten pages in length. i need to find the effects the economy has on crime rates in san bernardino county from 2000 to 2009, or 2010 if any information can be found for 2010. i need 12-20 sources, but NO LESS than 12, 12-15 is good. all of the sources MUST be scholarly journals and articles. i do need a bibliography. need to cite the sources as the actual acticle or journal, NOT as an online source, so as if you had a paper copy in your hand. try to stay away from direct quotes, use more paraphrasing, but a few direct quotes can be used, but no more than four or five.
The research paper should include the following:
-The hypothesis: the effects of unemployment on crime rates in New York City.
-Data and statistics
-Run a regression model
-Interprete regression(i.e test the significance of the model and coefficients)
-Evaluate contending theories or policies against your finding.
-Conclusion
-References
Paper should be written APA style.

Find five cities of comparable population and compare the rates of violent crime, property crime, and index crime for the years 2001-2004. Refer to the readings and instructor's example for methods to compare crime statistics. Do a search on the Internet to find the police department web sites for the cities you have selected. If a city does not have a police department web site, select another city that does so that you have a total of 5 police department web sites. Evaluate the quality of information posted on the web sites and determine if the cities have crime analysis units and/or crime mapping. Respond by writing a 300-word summary of your findings and post.
Which cities have the most crime? Is crime going up and down in the cities you have examined? What do you think accounts for the changes in the crime rates? What information supports your reasoning?
Following the one year anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, communities that now house Katrina victims are examining the impact of citizen displacement on cities such as Houston and San Antonio, Texas. As a criminologist, you have been asked to comment on the rising violent crime rate in Houston and the potential impact of displaced Katrina victims on crime. Choose one particular theory that would explain the increase in crime and:
a) Describe the theory in detail, including kay theorists and their contributions
b) Explain from that perspective why crime in Houston, Texas has increased since Hurricane Katrina in 2005.
Introduction:
This project will help you understand how law enforcement agencies in the United States are combating crime. You will examine improved policing services to counter the increase in crime rate.
Tasks:
Visit the following Web sites:
A New York Times article on the key crime statistics in the United States: http://www.nytimes.com/imagepages/2006/02/11/national/20060212_HOMI_GRAPHIC.html
A CBS News article on the rise of violent crime the United States:
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2006/09/20/fyi/main2025873.shtml
Based on your analysis of the Web sites, answer the following questions:
What do the Web sites reveal? How has the number of homicides in each listed city changed over the last five years?
Is there a connection among the cities that have seen a rise in murders? If yes, what is the connection?
What violent crime trends do you notice?
Is a rise in violent crime a cause for alarm? Why or why not?
Suppose you are a member of the local police agency in one of the cities where crime is on the rise. As a law enforcement official, suggest why the crime rate may be rising in your city.
How do crime-related issues such as gun possession, poverty, teenage pregnancy, lack of employment, lack of access to education, and drug use affect crime levels in your city?
What measures can law enforcement and the community take to combat and prevent crime?
Have any new crime prevention programs been introduced in the last five years? Have any programs been evaluated and, if so, have they been successful?
Begin with a brief introduction; continue with significant detailed material from the research literature; and conclude with a brief summary of the significant variables, factors, or processes found in existing literature; and conclude with a concise presentation of the basic question for the current project. Difference summation of the basic points and a reminder of the research question to the reader are appropriate for the last page or so of this. The hypothesis is crime rates of the Unites states, France Saudi Arabia and Germany will differ due to differences in the criminal justice system. So describe the criminal justice systems in Germany, Saudi Arabia, France and the United States. For these countries describe the roles of the police and how they operate for each country, The role of the judge for each country, The role of the prosecutor or types of prosecutors for each country, The Role of the Defense attorney for each country, the role of he jury or if they use laypersons. Explain how that country defines define and emphasize how they categorize crime and categories of crime for each country. Explain how each country measures their crime (ex-UCR in the USA.). Then explain some possible limitations of the data available that the country has (ex-like we have the UCR so is the same data available in other countries). Define what crime rates are. Then have Comparative Crime rates for each country I named (Saudi Arabia, France, Geramny, United States). Describe how researchers compare crime rates in these countries and how they set these rates up. Each country.
*Each of the 15 references needs to be used at least once in the body of the thesis
*Running header in right hand corner stating International crime rates, PG#
*Try not to use 2 quotations in one paragraph

Gun Control and Crime
One of the longest running debates in the criminal justice field is whether or not gun laws have any effect on crime rates. There are those that believe private citizens do not need nor should have the right to carry firearms for personal protection; then there are many people that believe the passage of right-to-carry laws as a direct correlation to a decrease in violent crime. It is the belief of many that no matter how strict the government makes gun laws for the law abiding citizen, those that want to or are going to commit a violent crime, are going to do so no matter what gun laws are passed. So, all this brings up the question of; does a private citizen that lives and operates within the law who has chose to exercise his/her right to carry a firearm for personal protection decrease crime or has zero to little affect on violent crime? In this paper I will examine the second amendment to the constitution, gun laws that have been approved and passed in the state of Virginia, the crime rates before and after the most recent passage of gun laws, how many people in the state of Virginia do carry a firearm(both openly and concealed carry) for personal protection; so that I may examine whether the government crackdown on the rights of the everyday law abiding citizen who chooses to carry a firearm for personal protection does or does not reduce the crime rate in the state of Virginia.
This is the first page of my paper, it needs to be Times New Roman, size 14, double spaced, i am including the websites of what i have found so far, it needs a Title page, it needs a reference page, at least 5 sources, it needs to be about the crime rates in the state of Virginia and if the Gun Control Laws on the books for the state of Virginia have any effect on those crime rates. I need to have statistical numbers of the crime rates for the last 7 years in the state of Virginia in the paper. This needs to be in APA formate, and i need it as soon as possible. I need internal Citations in the paper.

The Uniform Crime Reports posted by the FBI are an excellent resource when studying crime trends and many states have their UCR data posted on the internet. You can find these by a simple Google search: [state] UCR statistics (e.g., Florida UCR statistics) make sure that in the paper you include the URL used to obtain your statistics. Your task is to choose a state and compare the state-level statistics with the nationwide statistics. You will write a formal paper summarizing the results of your comparisons.
With regard to the crime rates in your chosen state (FLORIDA), look at ANY 5 consecutive years and focus on these two crime index offenses:
Violent crime - Murder and non-negligent homicide, forcible rape, robbery, and aggravated assault
Property crime burglary, larceny-theft, motor vehicle theft and arson
From year to year, did trends in your state mirror those nationwide? Where are the biggest discrepancies?
From year to year, did trends in your state increase or decrease?
Give the percentage change from year to year AND from the first year to the fifth.
Were there any years that stood out? For example, homicide rates in 2004 may have been much lower or higher than rates in the previous year and in the subsequent year.
What crimes are not reported in the data? For these crimes, how do you think their rates would compare to the rates of those reported?
1. Paper should be 10-12 pages in length (double-spaced)
2. Begin your paper with an introduction about the UCR, the history of the UCR and the sampling methods used by the UCR. Make sure the reader understands the type of data you are summarizing and any shortcomings the UCR has that affects its ability to accurately reflect true crime incidents in each area (e.g., reporting issues, sampling problems, the hierarchy rule, etc.). Also be sure to introduce the index offenses and give a brief definition of each.
3. As you write your paper, addressing each of the questions posed above, do so in paragraph format you are writing a formal paper - DO NOT use point form. The grammar and flow of your paper will be part of your grade.
4. Use tables and/or charts to depict the relationships and results you discuss. These should NOT be directly cut and paste from the online sites create your own, focusing only on what is important to communicate to the reader.
The Professor's Instructions:
Write a 700- to 1,050-word paper that examines crime measurement in the United States. Address the following:
?What instruments are used to measure crime in the United States?
?What are the major crime reporting programs? What are the purposes of major crime reporting programs?
?What are crime rates, arrest rates, clearance rates, and recidivism rates?
According to the "Myth v. Reality: Crime has been Steadily Increasing" CJi Interactive video, in what ways can crime rates be deceiving? How do crime rates relate to arrest rates? Is there a better solution to improving the correlation between crime rates, arrest rates, and clearance rates in the effort of combating criminal activity?
?What can crime and recidivism statistics tell you about crime in the United States?
Format your paper consistent with APA guidelines.

What I need help with is a current issue that addresses a relationship between Native Americans and the federal government and identify the legislation that is linked to the issue and explain how there is a connection.
This is what I think and where I need help from you with a study guide. Please read the following is what I wrote:
The problem that exists today between the federal government and the Native Americans is crime.
For the past five years the crime rate against the Native American has risen. In 2004, 131,539 Native American were arrested for murder, rape, robbery, aggravated assault and burglary. Compare to 2003 only 125,438 was arrested.
For the past five years the government reports that American Indian and Alaska Native people of all ages are victimized at the highest rate in the nation. The UCR reports that hate crimes against Native Americans has increased. In 2004, a total of 100 hates crimes consisting of bias crimes were up from 2003. However, fewer Native American were involved in hate crimes.
There is an overwhelming arrests of Native Americans over 72.3 percent of Native Americans were arrested in cities. Another 10.1 arrest occurred in the metropolitan countries the remainder were in non-metropolitan areas assumed to be the reservations, suburban, and communities that surround the reservation.
Gender and Crime
Part 1
On an unfortunate evening, Christina answered a knock at her door from someone claiming to be an immigration agent. An hour later, when police responded to a call from the residence, they found the woman stabbed with one of her legs seriously injured and her five-years-old son abducted. Later, when the investigators found out the details of the criminals; all of them were men in the age group of twenty to twenty five and were carrying guns.
In another incident of crime related to property crime, a man claiming to be a courier person entered into Lisa's house. He trashed everything in the place, dumping the contents all around, and completely ransacked it. The police found out that he was also carrying a gun with him.
Men commit an overwhelming percentage of violent crime and the majority of property crime in the United States.
?How would each of the three critical feminist perspectives?Radical, Marxist, and Socialist?explain this phenomenon? Do different life experiences by men and women impact the overrepresentation of men in the criminal justice system? How do gender differences impact sentencing? Provide examples to support your answer.
?How does allowing citizens to carry guns prevent crimes? Give relevant examples.
Part 2
Some research studies have indicated that white-collar crime costs Americans from 8 to 25 times as much monetarily as blue-collar crime. If this is the case, white-collar crimes are overlooked in Uniformed Crime Reports (UCR) and are not as heavily policed as blue-collar crimes. Discuss the financial impact of white collar crimes.
