Final Project Overview

Interview a female person age 20-25 you feel comfortable asking about their personality and attitudes.

Submit your Profile Report. For this project you will choose a person that is close to your own age and interview that person to learn more about them. In addition to the interview, compare and contrast the responses from your interview with your own responses to the same questions. Discuss the following:

o The learning and memory process. For instance, does the interviewee remember information more accurately if he/she observes the behavior being performed, or does he/she prefer to read how the behavior is performed? Does the interviewee prefer studying in a library, or at home where there are background noises and some distractions?
o Has the person you are interviewing taken the Myers Briggs test? Report the results. Does your interviewee feel these results are accurate? Why or why not? Which experiences does this person feel contributed most in the development of his/her personality?
o Does this person feel that he/she is self-monitoring in regards to his/her attitudes? How or how not? What does the interviewee feel was the strongest influence on his/her attitudes? What role does your interviewee feel a persons race, gender, or ethnicity play when forming that persons personality and attitudes?
o Does this person feel he/she is better at tasks when intrinsically motivated or extrinsically motivated?

(I am a white middle class male in my 20's)

In this writing assignment, you are being asked to discuss your social status relative to others in your community (or micro-culture) in a single essay of approximately 5-7 typewritten, double-spaced pages. Your essay should incorporate the three general tasks listed below. This is not to be written as three separate mini-essays. The three tasks are to be incorporated in a comprehensive, seamless essay that defines your community and your place within it.

1. Your first task is to define your community. We all belong to multiple communities (or micro-cultures/subcultures). List six communities to which you belong at the beginning of your essay, but choose one on which you want to focus the body of your paper.

A community is a group of people with whom you share experience, values, and identity. When you explain yourself to some one you dont know, membership in this community should be one of the things you mention. When you are in touch with some one from this community, whether or not you know them personally, you typically should feel a sense of connection and know that this person understands something significant about your life without your having to explain yourself in detail. For example, if you define your community as those who have played competitive college football, when you meet some one who has done the same, even if they did not play on your team, you will know that that person has experienced many of the same challenges and accomplishments you have.

Your community could be the group of people with whom you share the neighborhood in which you grew up or in which you now live. . Particularly for this essay, a community is not merely a geographic place, but the people who live in a particular place. A community could be defined according to a number of factors. Some common factors are:

Native or First Language
National origin (also, first, second, or third generation in U.S.)
Ethnicity
Gender
Age
Religious Affiliation
Political Perspective (Democrat, Republican, Green Party, Libertarian, Conservative, Liberal; also, Pro- or Anti-positions - for example, those people opposed to Hillary Clinton for President)
Economic class (lower, working class, middle, upper)
Profession
Education
Passionate interests (music, sports, art, automobiles, collecting, gardening, photography, accumulating wealth, accumulating material goods, etc.)
Location in which you live or grew up
Marital status (single, divorced, multiple divorces)
Parental Marital Status (divorced, non-divorced)
Health status (cancer survivor, etc.)

There are a number of factors not listed here. It is your task to identify the factors that define your community. Do this through careful self examination. As you do so, keep in mind that it is likely that your community will represent some combination of factors, not just a single aspect of your life. It is also possible that your community will be defined by a single, powerful shared experience for example serving in the Iraq War or living and working as a struggling actor.

As you define your community, the essential question to ask yourself is whether you share a common identity with all of the people in the group you identify, whether or not you know them personally or have even met them. If not, you should refine your community so that it reflects the group with whom you have some sort of meaningful shared experience. Limit the size of the group to the people with whom you identify strongly for example, the veterans of the Iraq War who saw ground combat and were injured, as opposed to all of those who served in the U.S. military during time of the War. Also, in the course of your essay consider whether your community is a primary or secondary social group. 2. Whatever you define as your community, your second task is to define the system of social status within that community. Status is defined by levels of respect, authority, and access to resources. In some communities, levels of respect, authority, and resource access may be determined very much by wealth, but even if this is so, there are almost always important factors besides wealth. You may have to look beyond the surface to see them, but once you do, you will probably see that there are many factors affecting status. For example, you might tell me in your essay ones status in that community is defined as upper, middle, or lower class solely by income. You might say that income determines which restaurants one can visit and what car one drives. This may be true. Income may be a very important factor in your community, but I suggest that if you look closely, you will see that status in your community is, in fact, determined by a variety of other factors. Consider the following questions as you consider the issue of social status in your community.

Into how many classes is your community divided? Whether there are two, three, or more social classes in your community, define them and the factors that differentiate high from medium-status people and medium from low-status people. Remember, a persons social status is defined by his or her standing in the community to which they belong. This can be based on the status of the family into which one is born, the economic standing of that family, ones gender, an individuals personal earnings, ones educational background, the degree to which a person follows religious teachings, a persons interpersonal skills, ones physical skills (e.g., being an athlete), a persons musical or other artistic talent, ones cleverness, and even personal skills, such as the ability to tell jokes.

What are the symbols of membership in the various social classes in your community? Here and in the previous section, do not confuse symbols with the factors that determine social status. What symbols define membership in one class or another in your community a style of speech, living on a certain street or in a specific area, a style of dress, a type of jewelry, or perhaps membership in an organization or club?

To what degree is status ascribed in your community and to what degree is it achieved? Define how the terms achieved and ascribed relate to different aspects of you community. What types of accomplishment confer achieved status? What specifically confers ascribed status? Keep in mind that social status is complex. It is normal in many communities for some aspects of social status to be ascribed and others achieved. is there social mobility? If there is mobility, do people change social status easily or with difficulty? What factors permit mobility?

3. Your third and final task in your essay is to define how you fit into the social pattern you describe. As you do so, please consider the following questions:

Are you low, middle, or upper class in your community?

Specifically, how do you stand relative to others with respect to the factors you define as determining class in your community such as earnings and education (assuming you use them as factors)?

What physical symbols, such as preferred music, hair style, clothing, and jewelry, do you use to signal your status to others?

What behavioral symbols of respect are shown in your community to those with significant status giving some one a preferred place at a table, listening closely when some one speaks, seeking a persons opinion on important matters, letting them make final decisions on important matters?

Are you happy with your status? Do you intend to move up in your community?

If you do intend to change your status, is your plan of action for change long-term or short-term and how long do you think it will take to effect a change?

Specifically, what is your plan of action to bring about this change?

Switch to IAS/IFRS: The Challenge
PAGES 38 WORDS 10455

As the months go by, European listed companies are discovering the upheavals involved in implementing IAS/IFRS from the FY 2005. The controversy surrounding IAS 39 (recognising and measuring financial instruments) has been a case of missing the wood for the trees - although there is no doubt that this standard is likely to have a major impact on companies in the financial sector, other IAS/IFRS standards are likely to impact just as much on the balance sheets of large industrial or retail groups.
For example there is IAS 22 (business combinations) and IAS 36 (impairment of assets) which will completely overhaul the way goodwill is treated - depreciation is replaced with the impairment test, which means a strict definition of a model for valuing assets acquired, which will make it possible to monitor the assets over several years. Both standards issue a series of recommendations, for the most part indicative, certain aspects of which may be somewhat baffling to valuation experts, but which most importantly are likely to usher in significant changes in the relationship between a company and its auditors.
The aim of this paper/thesis is to analyse the scope of the methodology recommended by these two standards in terms of valuation, and the implications of the imminent introduction thereof for the various actors involved (finance and accounts department within companies, auditors, market authorities, financial analysts, etc.) and their relationships with each other.

Roughly 30 sources are needed, with approximately 40 citations, or quotes, so roughly one per page. In essence, how have things changed for listed European companies now that they must disclose their financial statements according to IFRS (international financial reporting standards)? With special emphasis on goodwill, how has it changed? For example, in Germany companies used to have to disclose according to HGB (Handelsgesetzbuch), which treats goodwill completely differently than does IFRS. How does this affect the way companies disclose their financial statements? is it a big or small impact? Then to talk about how, if at all, the relationships between the actors changes (finance and accounts department within companies, auditors, market authorities, financial analysts, etc.).

Please write me an email should you have any extra questions. Appreciate it.

Life Span Case Study Project:
PAGES 13 WORDS 3503

Life Span Case Study Project

Overview

Your project involves interviewing (and maybe spending some time) with a person from three of the following groups:
Early childhood (ages 4-6)
Middle and late childhood (ages 7-12)
Adolescence (ages 13-19)
Early adulthood (ages 20-39)
Middle adulthood (ages 40-64)
Late adulthood (ages 65 and over)

The project will consist of two different parts:
Part One-identify topic and identification of three generations (w/ appropriate questions)

Part Twoapproximately 15-20 page paper (double-spaced, 1 inch margins, 12 font size, indent new paragraphs, use headings to guide the reader, and references)

Goals

You should keep the following pints in mind when you interview your subjects:
What level or stage of development are they experiencing? (biological, cognitive, socio-emotional; be specific and provide examples that illustrate this)
Compare how the different ages are similar/different.
What is this persons view of the past? Future?
How is this person being affected by:
o Age-normative process?
o Historical processes?
o Non-normative processes?

You may have some other more specific goals, too (for example, from what perspective?). Maybe you can view this as an opportunity to learn something more about somebody, for example, you may use this as a chance to get to know your grandmother better.

Paper Guidelines

Paper must be in APA format. Please become familiar with formatting guidelines at http://www.apastyle.org/previoustips.html

Introduction
Tell me who you interviewed (no real names). Provide information regarding their age, how you found them, how much time you spent with them, how and where you interviewed them (e.g., telephone, tape-recorded, in person, over coffee, for lunch, etc)Tell me what your goals were in conducting this project. What did you think you would find out?

Interview #1: summarize your interview with the first person (you may want this to be the youngest person). It may be helpful to organize the summary by topic or question. You do not have to me everything the person said but put specific quotes in the body of your summary to back up a point you make. For example, if you interviewed a young child about what he or she wants to be when he/she grows up, you might summarize this and back it up with a quote such as:
Billy (pseudonym) said, I think being a fireman is fun because you get to put out
fires and ride in fast trucks with the sirens on.

Interview #2: see #1

Interview #3: see #1

Discussion
Here is where you compare the three interviews. How were these three people different? The same? What things may have affected why they were different or the same? Did any of the theorists in your textbook (e.g., Freud, Piaget, Maslow, etc)help you to understand these three groups? Did you find anything that disagrees with what these theorists say? Note: points will be deducted from any paper that does not apply a comparison of the theorists/theories from the textbook. You do not hat to mention all of the theorists/theories, just those that pertain to your age groups or goals. For example, if your goal is to study dating patterns across three generations you will want to include references to Sternbergs Triangular Theory of Love, Eriksons and Marcias work on identity, and so on.

Additionally, you should reflect on how attempted to insure honesty in your interviews and what difficulties you encountered in doing this project.

Conclusion
In a few sentences, tell me what you have learned. Were there any surprises? How did what you learned help you to understand (a) children, (b) friends, (c) grandparents, and/or (d) your future?

References
List in APA style any references used for this project.

Appendix
At the end of the paper, append the questions you asked your subjects and/or any other material that is useful in understanding the conclusions drawn from this study.

Listening and Observing Exercise

Go to a public place (ex: a gourmet grocery store or a coffee shop) or an active learning situation (ex: student skills labs) where you have the opportunity to observe and listen. Stay in this observation area for about 30 minutes. Note the activities, behaviors, and communications of the individuals in that place.

For your paper, write about the activities you observed, how people engage in those activities, how they talk about what they are doing, and how they interact with others. What were your impressions about the individuals and their lives based on your observations and what you heard?

What are the advantages and limitations of listening and observing? How is it different from only observing?

PLEASE WRITE AT DOCTORAL LEVEL DOCUMENT

Details regarding assignment:
I need a 6 page paper that describes the Soviet withdrawal from Afghanistan and events from 1989 to 1992. It should also look at the political history of Afghanistan between the fall of the PDPA government in 1992 and the Taliban conquest of Kabul in 1992 and assess the formation of the Taliban regime and the conflict between the Taliban and the Northern Alliance.

-Arial 11 or 12-point font or Times New Roman styles.
- Page margins Top, Bottom, Left Side and Right Side = 1 inch, with reasonable accommodation being made for special situations and online submission variances.
CITATION AND REFERENCE STYLE
Assignments completed in a narrative essay or composition format must follow the accepted guidelines of the American historical profession, which is the Chicago Manual of Style. This course will require students to use the citation and reference style established by Kate Turabian in A Manual for Writers of Term Papers, Theses, and Dissertations, 6th ed. (Chicago, IL: University of Chicago Press, 1996), which is the most readily available distillation of the Chicago Manual.
-Cannot use Wikipedia as a source

The Chicago Style Manual for book-length works and its Turabian offshoot for research papers have long been the standard across all fields of study, as well as much of the publishing industry. These texts cover the layout and production gamut--including rules for chapter headings and subheadings, abbreviations, alphabetizing non-English names, and table design/designation. They even proffer a version of the newer parenthetical and bibliographic approaches similar to APA and MLA. You, however, will be concerned with Turabian's traditional "endnote" style and three parts for guiding the layout of your research papers:

1. Front matter--e.g., title page, , abstract.
2. Narrative with scholarly attributions.
3. Back matter--endnotes, bibliography.

READ THE FOLLOWING 6 PASSAGES OF INFORMATION AND ANSWER THE QUESTIONS INDIVIDUALLY

1. Ms. Riyadh is employed as an account executive with ABC Advertising (ABC). ABC is a national marketing and advertising firm specializing in domestic and international advertising. ABC has its corporate headquarters in this state and represents many major public and private corporations throughout the United States. Ms. Riyadh began working with ABC as a summer intern during her senior year in business school, and was hired as a full-time employee after receiving her M.B.A., with honors, from the University of Michigan in 1978. Ms. Riyadh has been employed with ABC at its office in the state capital since 1978. During her employment, she has won three national awards for her work.

For several reasons, Ms. Riyadh believes ABC has illegally discriminated against her and she now wants to sue the company. She says the company's practice has been to promote employees from within. Ms. Riyadh states that despite receiving "outstanding" performance evaluation ratings each year she has worked there, she has never been promoted since she was hired and has been repeatedly passed over for any promotions.

She also says that all of the male employees who were hired between 1978 and 1988 in the same classification as hers have been promoted from one to four times and earn significantly higher salaries. In addition, none of these employees has won any national awards, and a few of these individuals are marginal employees. She notes that three women have been promoted since she was hired, but points out that men greatly outnumber women in all positions at ABC.

ABC responded to a preliminary inquiry by asserting that Ms. Riyadh was not promoted because she doesn't "fit the image" that is right for the higher positions. ABC claims the higher positions have high visibility, require extensive travel, and have greatly increased client contact, including presentations before corporate and professional groups. ABC argues that Ms. Riyadh is a very plain woman, that she refuses to wear make up or adornments of any kind, other than a head scarf, that she is very religious and takes a daily "prayer and meditation" break during her lunch break, and that her religious beliefs prohibit certain types of "fraternizing," such as drinking alcoholic beverages and eating certain foods. ABC officials state that while Ms. Riyadh is a good employee, they do not believe she is "qualified" to represent ABC in certain capacities. ABC argues that in the advertising field, it is essential that higher "administrative" employees project a polished appearance and engage in social and fraternal activities in order to obtain and conduct business.

Ms. Riyadh states that ABC is discriminating against her. She argues that these factors are not relevant to her ability to perform in any of the higher positions, and that ABC is simply using other rationales as a ploy to justify discriminating against her. She further states that when ABC hired her, she was advised that if she did a good job, she could expect to be promoted to the position of account vice-president within two years.

Ms. Riyadh seeks damages for lost wages and benefits. She also wants a court order directing ABC to promote her to a higher position. Analyze Ms. Riyadhs case. Identify all potential claims and any defenses available to ABC.

2. Candy works for Road Hog trucking Company as a truck inspector. Over the last several months large amounts of cargo that Road Hog was supposed to carry for various shippers has disappeared from Road Hog trucks, prior to delivery. The Road Hog terminal manager suspects that the disappearances are attributable to thefts committed by his employees, but he has no idea who the thieves might be. He comes up with the idea that, even though he does not think Candy is the thief, she probably knows who is, so he will administer the polygraph test to Candy. During the test, he will ask her, with respect to all other employees, whether she has information about whether they have committed the thefts. Is the terminal managers plan legal? Explain your answer.

3. Paul Jones was an operations manager at the Wallsbury Company. His employment status was that of an employee at will. Jones received certain email messages at home, and he replied to his supervisor by email. His email messages contained some provocative language, including a reference to "kill the backstabbing jerks" and a reference to the "Jim Jones Koolaid affair". Later Jones was given 2 weeks notice of his termination and he was told that his email remarks were inappropriate and unprofessional. Jones believes he is a victim of invasion of privacy because the email messages caused his termination and the company had promised that email communication would not be intercepted and used as a basis for discipline or discharge. The company denies that it intercepted the email messages and points out that Jones himself send the unprofessional comments to his supervisor. Who should win the case Jones or Wallsbury Company? Why?

4. Dr. C. Brown, was an employee of Mars Pharmaceutical Products Inc. and was severely injured and hospitalized when a vat used in the production of AAXXN, an anesthetic ingredient, overflowed, spraying toxic chemicals into the immediate area. Brown, an employee with 20 years experience was tending the vat at the time of the overflow. OSHA inspector James Johnson was dispatched to investigate the incident. Johnson spoke with some employees who helped wash down Brown. A fellow employee who saw Brown after the accident told Johnson that Brown was "covered from head to toe with chemical, including his head and mouth." Brown's supervisor told Johnson that it was "company policy" that the vat operator wear a respirator, chemical goggles, and gloves. Although no one testified as to exactly what type of protective gear that Brown was wearing, the OSHRC found Mars in violation of a specific regulation that compels an employer to make sure that an employee engaged in an operation like Brown's is wearing full-body protective gear, including boots, chemical retardant clothes, a full face shield and a self-contained breathing apparatus.

Mars appealed this decision to the court of appeals, claiming that there was not enough evidence to support a citation for a violation of the chemical clothing requirements as no one testified exactly as to what Brown was wearing. What factors should the court consider when deciding whether to enforce or vacate an OSHRC decision? Should the court set aside this OSHRC decision? Why or why not?

5. Plato Corporation hears through the corporate grapevine that its employees are unhappy with working conditions at the manufacturing plant and are looking into bringing in a union. In an effort to stop the plant's unionization, Plato posts a notice on the lunchroom bulletin board stating that anyone found to be sympathetic with unions will be terminated. Is this strategy a permissible way for Plato to discourage unions? Why or why not?

6. A video camera aimed at the factory floor where U.S. Postage stamps are printed records what appears to be Mrray, a line employee, stealing sheets of stamps from the production line. Based on the tape, factory officials search Murray's locker and find the stolen stamps. Murray challenges the search as unconstitutional. Is the search legal? Why or why not?
