ESSAY 3?Research Paper
Word Count: 1250 (minimum)
3 Scholarly Sources Minimum
MLA format
In this argument position research paper, you will look at advertising and its relationship to some aspect of contemporary culture/cultural groups. You also need to relate the ideas from one or more texts we studied this semester to the effects of advertising on society. ALL QUOTATION OR PARAPHRASE should be cited in-paper (put the author?s name or other source identifier directly in your paper). Failure to give credit to the author is plagiarism and will result in a zero for the assignment.
This research paper is for my English course. I have posted above some of the requirement for the research paper.
My professor also requires us to find scholarly sources for the research paper such as books and article from well-known and trusted sites and authors. We should site those in the paper in MLA format everything has to be cited very well. Also we need to put some quotations.
Impotent note, we have discussed in class how the meaning of celebrity has changed in the last decade. Now celebrities are more about promotions and media( selling your self to be famous) rather then its achievement and talent of the individual fame.
In this research paper we would need at least 3-4 books and 4 articles that talked about the relationship of contemporary cultural/group to advertisement.
Explain briefly what ?virtual culture? and the ?Information Revolution? mean. In the critical thinking article, Macionis discusses how even our society?s heroes are evolving with changes in information technology. Give examples of ?old? and ?new? heroes. Do not use those examples listed in the book. Explain what these changes in icons reflect about our contemporary culture. Discuss whether you think virtual culture will become more or less important in the next hundred years and why using sociological concepts and/or theorist/s in the text to strengthen your argument. Finally, discuss whether these changes and virtual culture weaken or strengthen our cultural traditions and whether that is a good thing, a bad thing, or both.
There are faxes for this order.
Length: 2000 words, double-spaced, properly footnoted and with reference to relevant assigned readings (not just those written by me please!), class discussions and screenings and, if you wish, other readings, TV shows, films or pop culture fare. Remember to define your key terms, PLEASE use quotes to support your OWN arguments, NOT in place of them, and illustrate your points with examples.
Like I said, you may use other readings, tv shows films or what not to support your arguments, but the goal of the paper is to really show that I can integrate the class assigned readings to formulate a coherent argument and write a well argumented essay.
There are three options for the prompt; PLEASE choose ONE of the following that you feel most confident in writing about. I will upload the relevant readings in the resources section.
As per resources, they are mostly articles and journals online which I have direct links to. I have compiled them in a word document. I will upload that document in the resources, and you can use the direct links to view the readings yourself. Also, this is a final term paper - I will upload my midterm paper (for this course) that I have received back from my instructor with his marks and comments. I think it will show you the way in which my instructor wants the final paper to be written.
Prompt choices are:
1. Who owns and controls the Internet? What are the implications for popular culture in a democratic society? Discuss with reference to net neutrality and intellectual property rights, illustrating your arguments with examples from Web culture.
2. ?One of the real potentials of cyberspace is that it is altering the balance of power between media producers and media consumers. In such a world, the category of the audience, as a mass of passive consumers for pre-produced materials, may give way to the category of cultural participants.? Henry Jenkins, The Poachers and the Stormtroopers. Discuss this claim in relation to a user-driven virtual community (fan site, chat room, music site or other) in which you participate or which you follow.
3. In the pieces that we have read this semester, scholars like Henry Jenkins and Larry Gross have respectively argued for thinking about new media in terms of democratization and visibility, generally focusing on the positive aspects of new forms of communication. In contrast, Sherry Turkle ascribes some of the problems of adolescence, as noted in the Robin Marantz Henig article, to the very same technologies that make these new forms of communication possible. Clearly, new media represents a complicated space whose impact is still under negotiation. Using at least one new media artifact (i.e., a platform or a technology) as the foundation for your paper, please construct an argument that explores how new media impacts relationships in contemporary culture. Although you may employ multiple artifacts in your discussion, the goal here is to develop a cohesive argument about the potential implications of new media on interactions in society.
The most important things to remember are:
1. Please write a strong thesis statement. I have had writers write a rhetorical question as a thesis - that is not okay. Please write a well put-together thesis statement in the introduction. 2. Please develop each paragraph with a clear topic sentence and support. Do not have loose paragraphs with just details or statements of arguments.
3. Please don't quote from the sources to replace your arguments. Use them to support your arguments and show as evidences. Please please remember this.
Will you please let me know which prompt you will be working on prior to writing the essay? Thank you for your help.

PLEASE WRITE THIS ESSAY IN 8 HOURS I REALLY REALLY REALLY NEED IT AND ALSO NEED TO GET AN A. THANK YOU!!
Here are the instructions:
In his article "What Meets the Eye," Daniel Akst states that, "For better or worse, we live now in an age of appearances. It looks like looks are here to stay" (295). Yet in his recent article in The New York Times International, Anand Giridharadas seems to contradict this statement by pointing out that, "in a hundred ways women are clamoring for a freedom long cherished by men: the right to be ugly too." He refers to this as the "insurgence of imperfection," and cites popular culture examples such as Lena Dunham and Mindy Kaling.
You are a journalist asked to write an essay for GQ magazine on the changing value that young men and women, ages 18-30 put on appearance for the year 2013 and for contemporary culture. The editor tells you that you should discuss both men and women's emphasis or lack of emphasis on beauty and include personal interviews, factual information (i.e. statistics) and any quotes from other essays/articles that you find relevant.
I already started my essay with this beginning:
Welcoming The Metro Sexual
At first, my parents had only one bathroom that they shared and a dressing room next to it. Then, because they started to wake-up every day at the same time to go to work, they decided to make the dressing room another bathroom so that they could get ready at the same time. They broke the wall between the bathroom and the dressing room and built two toilettes and sinks to a new large bathroom. However, they continued to share the shower bath one end of which connects to my mothers territory, and the other to my fathers territory. Since they engineered the same type of toilet and sink to the same large room and also located them at the same place, the bathroom looked as if there was a mirror in the middle. The bathroom was symmetric in every aspect. The bath towels were located at the same place opposite to each other with the same color, the mirrors in front of the sink were in the same size and style, the closets were identiclly placed in the same area, facing each other. Since there was no wall in the middle, both my mothers and my fathers bathroom looked the same: like a reflection of each other.
As a child, it was one of my favorite tricks to show my friends my parents bathroom, and pretend to go through the mirror, which was magicallythought to be located at the middle of the room.. I always succeeded in surprising them.
As I grew up, I started to recognize the differences between my mothers territory and my fathers territory of the bathroom because of the different beauty products they started to use. The mirror effect was gone. While my mothers area of the bathroom was adorned by jewelry, my father had no jewelry. While my mother had lots of beauty products around her sink such as a anti-aging cream, a cream that helps her body to stay moisturized, nail polish that made her hand look more elegant, make-up that made her face look prettier, a spray for the legs that make the legs look tanned, hairspray to make her hair look perfect for a long time, teeth-whitener... My fathers side of the bathroom had only a shaver and a toothbrush. He even borrowed my mothers shaving cream when he need it.
Then the social media decided to make more money. Men became the target audience. Women were already in the front row. New words such as metro sexual started to join our lives.
I remember the first time my father bought an after-shave moisturizer for himself. Then came some under eye creams, body lotions, and hair gel It was not much longer until we started to make fun of him calling him metro sexual. It was easy for media to persuade men to purchase these products since it already knew how to influence women.
When I was 16, we went to Las Vegas as a family. While I was walking with my father through a shopping mall to meet my sister and my mother, a dealer caught us and started to talk about her products. She was directly talking to my father in a very persuasive way so that I got jealous. At the end of the fifteen minutes of talking, my father bought himself a sea salt that help to get rid of dead skin, a special oil to put on after the process that softens the skin, and a moisturizer that helps to maintain the softness. He paid $400 for these products. I never thought my father needed $400 to soften his skin, I mean, how bad could his skin be?
and my teacher made these notes:
1) I like the idea of using your father as a representative of what has happened to men in general with respect to appearance and self-esteem. However, the problem right now is that you ONLY use your father as an example, so that it begins to feel like the change applies only to him, not to all men in general. I think you need to bring in some outside examples and support earlier in the essay. You could use other men as examples (friends, peers), you could bring in statistics on how much the market has grown for men's products, use articles from any source to either support your points or to use as a counterpoint to your father's experience
2) The idea that the internet is the reason men have bought into the whole commercial aspect of beauty is also worth exploring.
3) I would keep your father in the picture but mix him up with examples of other men, and other voices discussing how men's attitudes and purchases have changed.
you can use quotations from these news that I found interesting

Introduction: 2 pages
Body: 10 pages
Conclusion: 1 page
Topic: Disneyland: The Fading Premise of Reality in a Postmodern Society.
(This topic is my primary selection. But you can change this that best fit/present your written research)
Key Terms:
Hyperreality, simulation, simulacrum, representation, postmodernism, identity (you can add 2/3 key terms if you like. I have uploaded a few research paper that are done previously by the seniors for your better understanding)
Find an additional location to Disneyland and compare and contrast the two in terms of simulacra, representation, hyperreality, simulation, identity ... ...You have to look for a location that could offer interesting points of discussion. It does not have to be a theme park, but it could be. you have ask and answer better questions. Find a few key postmodern concepts related to simulacra and discuss these with reference to your location and Disneyland. You can ask how postmodern identity is reinforced by another location and then see if it is similar to Baudriallrd??s claims, or not. Focus the essay to include an additional `theme park` besides Disneyland to discuss in the essay. you can discuss both parks in the essay, but you must find one that is somewhat different from Disneyland, so you may compare and contrast and draw a relevant conclusion.
Consider the notion of the amusement park. There are amusement parks all over the world that draw from different concepts of the hyperreal, and cultural specific notions of fantasy and escape. To locals these places may be the ??happiest place on earth,?? whereas Disneyland may be viewed as a cheap knock-off of Americanism. Perhaps consider the Soui Tien amusement park in Viet Nam with its Buddhist themes featuring a ride that takes you through `the torments of hell`
http://www.vietnamhost.com/suoitien_park/index.html
Or, BonBonLand ?? an amusement park in Denmark owned by a candy manufacturer. The park includes some rather strange rides including a rollercoaster called `dogfart switchback`, as well as some rather risqu themed rides. You can find some photos here:
http://www.themeparkreview.com/europe2005/bonbonland/bonbonland1.htm
The hyperreal is not a universal concept that has to rely upon Disneyland. Expand upon the Baudrillardian notions.

I have marked blue coloured sources as primary sources. Baudrillard simulation and simulacrum have to remain one of the primary sources but you can change the other blue coloured primary reference if you like. You can change a few secondary sources to a new source but please avoid unreliable sources, such as Wikipedia. Try to take secondary sources from article, journal? etc.)

Description
This project entails three essential objectives:
That you engage a phenomenon (an event, movie, individual, television show, consumer object, etc) as enmeshed in American culture,
That your analysis shows some insight into American (popular) culture,
That you present your analysis/argument on a web presence of your own making (such as a wiki, blog, or website).
Invention
Think about the audience you've chosen to address and about what impact you want to have. Imagine them as a friendly but skeptical audience, willing to be persuaded by a reasonable argument. Perhaps they are familiar with the topic or image you have selected but less conscious of its implications than they realize. Can you show them new connections and interpretations? Can you give them a new perspective?
Your project might take a form similar to some of our former projects. For instance, you might decide to argue for the negative or positive qualities of some cultural condition or cultural practice (such as the the essays on the Shrek films and laziness and video gaming below), in which case you are writing an evaluation. Or, you might decide to create a new category or redefine a category or genre of pop culture (such as the argument for "Vidlit" as a genre in "Of Sleuths and Starships" linked below), in which case you are writing a definition. Like our first two projects, this one is an analysis and you'll likely be borrowing from that experience as well. For instance, the articles on Shrek and "Vidlit," borrow strategies from the Advertising and Rhetorical Analysis assignments (think back as well to the day we spent analyzing the "Dennis and Dee Go on Welfare" episode of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia - had we geared our analysis toward explaining how it reflects popular cultural conceptions on government assistance, it could have satsified the requirements of the Cultural Analysis assignment). Remember as well that many of the works we've read previously in class - e.g., "Why Johnny Can't Dissent," Fame Junkies, were themselves cultural analyses - they made arguments about contemporary culture (that consumerism has appropriated what used to be leftist strategies of resistance, that celebrity has become an addition for most Americans, respectively), and backed them up with analysis of cultural products and phenomenon.
Next, gather information about your subject. What aspects of an American mythology or cultural mores are the audience asked to identify with, and how are its characteristics embodied in the topic? What do most people seem to think about the topic? What else might it mean? Try to remain open as you gather more information about your subject: consider its parts; look at details; compare a variety of examples of it; look for evidence about the causes and effects of images; consider contrasts too. Think also about similar practices or artifacts in the culture and common factors that might account for them as well. Then, think about how this information can help you shape a thesisan interpretation you wish to argue.
I really want to use Generation RX, and the use of precription drugs by teens. But it's up to you what it says about the american culture aspect (thats what im paying you for)
Write a paper in which you answer the following questions:
?How is the word myth used popularly? For example, what does the statement, "It's a myth" mean? In contrast, how is the word myth used in the academic context? After considering the definition in your textbooks and course materials, write a definition in your own words.
?What are the most common mythological themes across different cultures? Why do myths from different cultures around the world address such similar or universal themes? Think about how myths explain the unknown and the tribulations of mankind.
?What is the relationship between belief, knowledge, mythology, and religion? Where do mythology and religion intersect? Where do they diverge? Think about the function of myth and religion in helping human beings cope with change, suffering, loss, and death.
?Do you think mythology is still relevant in contemporary culture? How do people resort to modern myths to deal with the unknown and hardships in life?
Format your citations and references consistent with APA guidelines.
You should write a speech addressing cultural and/or artistic aspects found in at least two different sources: Denise Duhamels poetry collection Kinky, and Valerie Faris and Jonathan Daytons film Little Miss Sunshine. I have provided a list of potential options that would work with Kinky and Little Miss Sunshine. Ultimately you must construct an ARGUMENT (likely about contemporary culture or art, but potentially about anything). You might suggest and defend an interpretation; argue for the purpose/meaning of your topic; assert a message (one of many perhaps) that you have reason to believe these writers/directors are trying to convey, etc. Regardless of your focus, you must provide evidence (specific details and examples) to support your claims and conclusions. You might address how successful/unsuccessful the writers/directors were in getting their point(s) across, or shed new light on the topic by discussing the greater context.
The categories below are broad, so you should narrow your topic, and identify specific examples that speak to (support, challenge) your argument.
Options to consider:
1. Function of Humor, Irony, and/or Satire
2. Influence of Media
3. American Dream (dreams of personal prosperity)
4. Capitalism and/or Commodity/Commercial Culture
5. Competition
6. Conformity and/or Independence
7. Friendship, Family, and/or Community
8. Individual and/or Communal Identities
You should construct your speech in such a way, that it would include the following components:
-Hook: an interesting first statement that draws the audience in
-Introduction: including a central thesis and preview/map of the speech (shouldnt be too long)
-Body: demonstrating an appropriate organizational pattern, key points, transitions, supporting evidence (details, examples, etc.)
-Conclusion: summary of main points & ideas, ending with a satisfying reminder of how the points raised in your speech tie together/support your thesis.
I need a clear thesis statement!
Try to demonstrate clarity and coherence in your writing. You?ll be marked on your understanding of the issues and critical/theoretical depth (especially in relation to your use of reasoning and research for support) and your writing style. Edit your work carefully for spelling and other typographical or grammatical errors.
This is a research essay and I need 6 sources (scholarly) one of the topics below.
1) Freedom in/and sport? How do sports reproduce (or challenge) gender, sexuality, and/or racial norms? Choose one sport or develop a comparison of two sports that will allow you to fully discuss this question using current examples.
OR
2) Homophobia and the mainstream? How (non)pervasive is homophobia in contemporary culture ? and how does its prevalence (or decline?) relate to sex/gender norms? What are its effects? Narrow your approach in relation to your interests (i.e., homophobia in Ontario sex ed, or in a mainstream religion, or?.).
So choose one of the topic above is does not matter which one.

CHRISTIAN WORLDVIEW ESSAY INSTRUCTIONS
Romans and the Christian Worldview
Rationale: The apostle Paul authored Romans toward the end of his third missionary journey, about A.D. 57. He addressed this letter specifically to the Christians in Rome. At the time, the church in Rome consisted of Jewish and Gentile believers with Gentile Christians in the majority. Paul wrote to the Christians in Rome in order to address specific concerns and challenges they were facing. While Romans was an occasional letter (not a systematic theology), Paul presents the Gospel of Jesus Christ in a very systematic fashion. The Gospel is actually the overarching theme of Romans as Paul spells this out in his programmatic statement in 1:16?17. As the systematic presentation of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, Romans is foundational to the biblical/Christian worldview.
Assignment: In this Turabian formatted 750?1000-word essay, you will articulate how Paul?s argument in Romans is foundational to the biblical/Christian worldview. Recognizing that Romans is not a systematic theology and does not contain all the essential truths that are relevant to a worldview, consider how the Apostle Paul articulates truths that are foundational to the biblical worldview. The goal of this assignment is to defend the biblical worldview in contemporary culture while interacting with the book of Romans.
It must be typed in 12-point Times New Roman font. You must include major headings. Include a cover page that contains the title of your essay, your name, course and section number, and date.
Your essay must address the following components:
? Creation:
o What does Romans inform us regarding Creation?
o Natural creation
o Humanity/human nature
? Sin: What are the consequences of sin?
? Salvation: What does Romans teach about Salvation?
o The nature and mission of Jesus Christ
o Justification by faith
o Sanctification/life empowered by the Holy Spirit
? Eschatology: What does Romans teach about God?s ultimate goals?
? Ethics: How are Christians to live in this world?
? Theology: What does Romans teach about the nature and attributes of God?
Culture and Gender
How you believe your own culture (latino) and gender influence your teaching and learning. Do you believe your gender served as an advantage or a disadvantage in your own academic experience? How about your culture? Explain how you will account for the ways in which gender may affect your students learning. How will you adapt your teaching so that your classroom will be a good fit for students from all backgrounds?
CULTURE:
1. The totality of socially transmitted behavior patterns, arts, beliefs, institutions, and all other products of human work and thought.
2. The predominating attitudes and behavior that characterize the functioning of a group or organization.
CRITIQUE:
1. Characterized by careful, exact evaluation and judgment: a critical reading.
Write an essay that analyzes and comments on a specific object from American culture. Choose an object that will allow you to make an argument about how that object reflects certain cultural attitudes about women in contemporary American society. Your focus should be on a concrete, recognizable object, not on some broad historical or political trend (even though you may want to use history or politics to analyze your object of choice). Look closely at your object:
*
describe it
*
describe how it relates to women in America
*
think about why it has become popular (with women, men, or both)
*
explain the values or beliefs it conveys about women in American in 2010
Your essay will require a clear argument about the object you have chosen and what the object says about women. Your goal is to educate your readers about this object and how and why we use it??"and, most importantly, why its important to use a feminist lens to analyze it. You will undertake thoughtful research to learn about the object and its cultural meaning(s). You will then analyze the information you have gathered and the theoretical arguments we have read in Pre-Session. Finally, you will use your analysis to develop your own argument.
In your essay you will use your research to support the points of your argument, but make sure the argument is your own original argument??"in other words, your ideas are stated in your own words, and your outside sources (research and theory) are used to support or clarify these points, not state them for you. Be sure to make logical judgments when you are analyzing your object, and that all of your conclusions are earned??"that is, you have presented enough evidence and analyzed it sufficiently to validate your conclusion.
Introduction, Body Paragraphs, and a Conclusion
Make sure your essay has these three main parts: Introduction, Body Paragraphs, and Conclusion. The introduction should grab your readers attention and clearly introduce your object. The body paragraphs should present your outside sources and your original analysis in a logical order, so you should organize your writing to include quotes, analysis, and transitions between paragraphs. The conclusion should not simply repeat what youve already said, but should pose a new perspective about the issue for your readers to consider.
There are faxes for this order.

For this essay you will be exploring and analyzing the issues raised by the reading of <
Focus: On some level, the essay should focus on gender roles in contemporary ("now") culture. Consider what is expected of males and females in society.
Fight Club: The essay sgould use the novel as a reference point, a "symptom," an example, a philosophy, a culture artifact, (or all of the above) to help in the analysis.
Style: This is a critical analysis essay. Professor want to see how well I can access and digest what I read. This is not, however, an "opinion" piece or editorial. Your "argument" is the way in which you emphasize broad themes and symbols in the book. For example, consider what Tyler, the narrator, and Marla represent.
Besides "Gender Role Behaviors and Attitudes", "The Gender Blur" and "There is no Unmarked Woman" that I provided, I need two additional outside sources to support the essay. However, I haven't found any yet. I need your help to find those two extra source and include them in the essay.
P.S. Please include: (1) the Novel --- Fight Club is written byChuck Palahniuk.
(2) "Gender Role Behaviors and Attitudes" and "The Gender Blur" are from
the book <
(3) Parenthetical citations is required.
(4) Two extra additional outside sources cannot be from <
I need the work cited page so that I can know where the outside sources come from.
