Delegation is the process by which the subordinate staffs are assigned duties and certain responsibilities by their superiors. It gives the subordinate the mandate to make decisions towards a task, so as to ensure that the task is result oriented, and effective. Delegation of work enables the leaders to offload some of the tasks they have and seek assistance from the subordinates in accomplishing large volumes of work within a short period of time. Delegation of duties enables others to develop their personal skills. It drives improvements in a company and builds better relationship between the staff members Warner, 1997.

The people to whom the tasks are assigned should be competent and should have the necessary skills and qualities to the delegated duty.

Participatory management involves including the subordinates in making the decisions of the company or organization. The creativity and expertise of employees is included in solving problems that arise within the organization. The companies empower their employees by giving them the authority to do certain jobs. Empowerment of the employees allows them to be able to propose solutions on how certain tasks should be handled; it gives them the mandate of taking responsibility of their actions, and also enables them to take risks on behalf of a company.

Benefits

Participatory management gives a chance to the subordinates to contribute their ideas on the resolution of a problem. This encourages to work in favor of the organization because they feel their opinions are being appreciated. Empowering of employees helps create trust among them and their employers and makes them accountable and be able to learn from their mistakes Mohan & Stokke, 2000.

Communication between the management and their employees is a factor that contributes an organization's success.

Delegation of duties and participatory management enables the managers be able to mentor and teach their employees so that they can respect one another help them engage in a positive dialogue with each other. This helps the employees improve on their performance and satisfaction.

Delegation of duty can fail to help the organization get good results. The task can be assigned to a person who is incompetent and cannot do a job efficiently. This would lead to poor results. A manager has to analyze the qualities and experience of a worker before delegating a task. Some managers do not see the value of delegation because they term it as costly. This is because, the number of employees will increase and so does the expenses of the company in terms of salary. Participatory management may fail if there is no respect among the workers such that they do not listen to each other's opinions.
