¶ … University of San Francisco, not only because of my background, but also because of my values and determination.

My major is Finance, and I plan to minor in Media Studies. I have been working part-time as an office assistant since I enrolled in 2004 at the college I am currently attending. The teacher I work for has provided a wealth of information for me concerning school, career options, decisions about the future, and basically about life in general. From 1997 to 2002, I was a member of the Prefectorial Board, from which I learned integrity and leadership skills. And from 1995 to 2000, I was a school representative for the Badminton school team. This too taught me integrity and leadership skills, however I also learned the importance of cooperation and compromise.

I was born in Indonesia. I lived for ten years in Singapore, and then moved to the United States to continue my undergraduate studies. I lived alone ever since elementary school when I was in Singapore. When I moved to the United States, was the first time I ever lived with my sisters. From this experience I have learned the meaning and importance of family, of having siblings to share my life with, and to be able to enjoy the love I feel being with them. I also understand why my mother has always wanted me to further my studies in the United States with my sisters. Although I always knew that furthering my education was important, I never knew the true importance of being with and a part of my family. And of course with being part of a family, as with anything good and worthwhile, comes responsibility, commitment, and compassion.

Living in different countries has taught me many things, such as tolerance and responsibility. I have also learned to be objective and patient. Life seldom happens the way we plan, but it does happen, so it is important to be aware and appreciative of the positive things and try to turn set-backs and obstacles into opportunities, rather than failures and defeats.
