A contact management system, or customer relationship management system, primarily makes use of a database containing profiles and contact information of potential and existing customers. This is very useful for marketing, sales, and customer service. It can help improve a business by targeting a marketing or sales effort to a specific group of people. For example, a company may offer to sell tennis equipment to people who already play tennis regularly. Such people are more likely to respond to the offer than people with other interests.
