Leadership at GE

The General Electric Leadership Program is a program to prepare GE's leaders of the future, and it is one of the most respected leadership programs in the world, because it gets excellent results and creates leaders of the future. The program is multi-faceted, gives hands on experience, and shows participants what their corporate experience at GE will be like, so it gives GE exceptional leaders, and prepares college grads for a rewarding career with a global leader in numerous different departments.

Why is this program so successful and well respected? Because it works, and because it is extensive. Students do not sit in class for a few weeks. They spend six months in a location, and then rotate to another location, learning every aspect of day-to-day operations during their time there. It is a full time job, and they also have periods of intensive study at the Crotonville, New York location of the company. That means they gain hands on experience in management and leadership. One of the people in the YouTube interview talks about managing workers on the shop floor, negotiating contracts, and working with other leaders, which shows how diverse the training is, and that is just one reason it is so successful.

The program allows participants to pick the areas they want to specialize in, and then they can see what they like, what they do not like, and where they would like to spend their career at GE. This program is also successful because it fully prepares the graduates to lead in any area of the company, which means they can transfer between different locations with very little retraining or learning, and that helps the company in many ways. First, they know their managers are flexible and can work in just about any environment. It also means they will always have a good crop of well-qualified managers to draw on, even if they spin off new companies. Because they have a global outlook in their training, they create leaders who can seamlessly move throughout and upward in the company, and that benefits the company in numerous ways. The global outlook spreads throughout the company and allows it to be successful anywhere it chooses to do business.
