With rising apprehension about racial and ethnic inequalities in health, and the necessitate for health care systems to provide accommodation for more and more assorted patient populations, cultural competence has become increasingly a subject of national worry. Preparing physicians to care for varied populations is vital. Social, cultural, and language obstructions to health care access are plentiful and problematic. Understanding a person's cultural background aids in generating an individual and complete plan of care for the patient as those with dissimilar cultural backgrounds may have varied viewpoints on health and wellness. Research has shown that good communication amid patients and health care providers is directly connected to a person's happiness, treatment adherence and affirmative health results (Cultural Competency for Health Care Providers, 2007).
