This book is written by bestselling author on sustainability issues, Michael Pollan. This published work focuses on asking what is appropriate for eating dinner. Pollan gives a detailed history of the food we consume in Western society and focuses on the processing of meat and other products as a necessary component of this type of living.

This source is useful for my research paper because of an entire section of this work being dedicated to pastorilism and the benefits and problems associated with raising animals for food. Pollan makes a distinction between large scale organic production techniques and small organic techniques that demonstrate the unique subtleties of each method providing unique problems associated with the topic.

This source can be used throughout the research paper, but it can be specifically used to build reasons for problems and reasons for solutions as well as factoids that can be used in the introduction and background of the argument as well. The author published this argument as a OP-ED piece in one of the most read newspapers in the world demonstrating the importance of the author's argument. Some of the classic arguments against pastorilism are debunked in this argument such as the link to global warming and climate change. Specific examples from around the world are used in this article to help support the claims by the author. This literature will usefully contribute to my research because of the arguments contained within this piece.

This article references studies that give scientific evidence to both support and refute certain claims within the framework of the argument. For my purposes, there are some useful statistics describing methane emissions that can be used in my paper to describe the problems with pastorilism. This book takes a hard stand against eating meat and the destructive processes that accompany this practice. The work attempts to find a comprehensive appraisal in order to contrast the positive effects of meat consumption with the negative consequences of meat production and to answer a simple question: are the benefits (health and otherwise) of eating meat greater than the undesirable cost, multitude of environmental burdens in particular, of producing it? This book gives a very practical idea of how to incorporate these.
