¶ … advance for your consideration of my application for enrollment in ABC University. I have the desire to learn, the ambition needed to pursue learning at the highest level of achievement, and I am eager to participate with your campus community on several levels.
The student body at ABC University is a very diverse group of students, reflecting the diversity in our society and representing many cultures, ethnicities, religions and political points-of-view. Since the University proudly promotes diversity, and prides itself on the myriad of cultures and backgrounds that are in attendance -- who are learning to solve problems with a worldview towards cooperation and understanding -- I will fit in perfectly with this community.
Not only will I assimilate well and be seamlessly integrated into the campus population, based on my background and experiences, I will be in a position to make a meaningful contribution to the learning and socially interactive environment at ABC University.
I was born and raised in the Indian culture, and due to my grandparents and my parents' interest in raising me to fully participate in our society, I became aligned with the religions, the traditions, the beliefs, ceremonies, the music and the languages of India. India is known as the oldest living civilization on Planet Earth, and there are so many positive aspects to India that a young person growing up in India with eyes and mind open becomes worldly and wise by participating in various aspects of the culture.
My experiences have helped me develop a worldview well beyond the cultures of my own native community. I served my country for seven years in the Indian Army. Later I served the people of Haiti as I was part of the United Nations Peace-Keeping Operation in Haiti for six months. I have been involved in human rights campaigns, having work for the International Red Cross as a human rights trainee in India. These worldly experiences put me in a position to be able to make a contribution to the ABC University community; I have cultural, political, and internationally-influenced experiences to share with other students and groups on campus.
When I arrived in the United States in 2009 as a green card holder, I learned -- of necessity -- to pull myself up by the bootstraps. I had to struggle for awhile as a first generation American and I faced challenges that any immigrant must face. But I met those challenges head on and I not only persevered but I thrived in the American experience. I began my college career in Connecticut and as a minority with a totally different background than most of the other students, I adapted and did very well, maintaining a 3.6 GPA. Currently I am a full-time math tutor -- my minor -- and I am actively involved in the Association of Indians in Connecticut.
My major is Mechanical Engineering. I am a person that learns quickly and enjoys solving problems for others, so learning the fundamentals and applications of Mechanical Engineering will enable me to work within any number of fields. For example as a trained engineer I will be in a position to be part of a wide range of development projects that, for example, could help advance the fields of medicine, surgery, sustainable construction, and other processes and systems that drive technology and change within myriad industries.
