¶ … learning advocacy within the age range of high school, especially for those that are developmentally disabled. According to the authors (Van-Belle, Marks, Martin, & Chun, 2006), they believe a "third wave" has occurred in teaching self-advocacy to "individuals with disabilities" (Van-Belle, et. al., 2006). Many professionals are becoming aware of this occurance because this was not the case a few years back because . They are empowering these persons to have a voice through self-advocacy skills. In fact, one is stressing that the people should get taught as early as possible in order for them to become a success. Schools are encouraged to get involved in educating students in this process who have these issues (Van-Belle, et. al, 2006). The goal is for them to learn these skills from a young age until they are an adult with the hopes of living a "self-determined life" (Van-Belle, et. al., 2006).

One needs to note the important points. Workshops were held during this particular study. However, they learned that it is crucial to have a grasp on how many individuals would show up; each of them need name tags; a variety of information needs provided, and an opportunity for more opportunities for the students to interact and ask questions. Through this, one can partner with other organizations in which to gain resources for those who are disabled. Also, schools can take part in this endeavor by means of having workshops to those who are high school students and to work with the parents as well as the teachers. The goal is to have these workshops taking place in every location of the state. Ultimately, people of all ages learn how to have a voice for what it is they need or want through the self-advocacy workshops (Van-Belle, et. al.,2006).
