¶ … technological advancements, it seems that society has a long way to go before the masses acknowledge the benefits of adopting environmental attitudes. Governmental agencies are thus tasked with the mission to play more active roles in trying to stop or even reverse processes that have a negative effect on the environment. The problem with raising public awareness is the fact that the majority of people are already familiarized with the effects that pollution has on the environment.

It is thus especially difficult to influence the masses to take up more attitudes that are not damaging for the environment. One of the obvious things that the government would have to do in order to reduce the amount of pollutants affecting the environment is to introduce tougher regulations that make it mandatory for individuals to get actively involved in protecting the natural world.

The fact that people are acquainted with laws limiting them in certain activities means that these people have no alternative but to act in accordance and refrain from engaging in processes that would cause too much damage to the environment. Furthermore, regulations such as those meant to impose higher taxes on individuals polluting more are likely to lead to the number of people part of this group is likely to drop. What the authorities often fail to understand is that education is sometimes as effective as imposing harsh regulations.

Through introducing educational programs that make it possible for the public to observe the more devastating effects of pollution on the environment, the authorities can be more likely to succeed in the fight for the natural world. Control monitors showing people how their actions damage the environment would be needed in order for the masses to actually identify the degree to which they are responsible for destroying nature.

Individuals typically prefer to distance themselves from environmental harm as a result of the fact that they do not have a first-person perspective of their actions on the natural world. Through making them better acquainted with the destruction they can create through performing activities that are considered basic, the government is more probable to influence the masses to express more interest in actions that can save the environment. The government needs to look at the masses as a body that needs to be reminded.
