AWS in South Korea
I. Introduction
A. Statement of Purpose
The purpose of this document is to deconstruct the viability of deploying cloud computing within the healthcare industry. Specifically, the author is seeking to examine the utility of a cloud paradigm for rendering e-medicine services overseas. Adoption rates for cloud computing have significantly increased in the past several years (Harper, 2017). However, there are a number of factors affecting those rates of adoption in the healthcare industry. As such, this paper will examine the most relevant of those factors within a proposed use case in South Korea.
Description of the company and its industry
The company considered within this paper is a hospital in South Korea. In this regard it is a typical care facility for the health care vertical. The health care industry as a whole has had to make a number of advances in its Information Technology infrastructure and architecture over the last couple of decades. This movement was spawned in earnest after the implementation of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), which had several ramifications some of the most vital of these are containing records in electronic format and adhering to specific measures for the purpose of both security and privacy (ACORN, 2017).
Thus, there are a number of points of consideration for the company mentioned above and any within the healthcare vertical in terms of cloud computing. The cloud’s benefits are substantial and include a flexible, pay on demand pricing model augmented by less reliance on physical infrastructure (Harper, 2013). However, there are very definite measures organizations must follow in terms of storing and accessing data (and patient data in particular). Subsequently, it is necessary to discern what impact the various facets of e-medicine would have on those regulations as well as what impact they would have on the aforementioned hospital’s ability to achieve its primary objective—serving its patient population better.
The product service that will be entered in the new country
The product/service that will be entered in the new country is Amazon Web Services (AWS). AWS has gained a significant amount of acclaim as a provider of public cloud services. There are a number of benefits to deploying AWS. Organizations effectively attain an extra layer of security since whoever will attempt to infiltrate their own data must first infiltrate the myriad security measures AWS has in place. Moreover, they have the option of utilizing both public and private clouds—which AWS can facilitate—to create additional security and privacy fortifications. The cloud is a useful means of accessing e-medicine and reaping the benefits of the insight found in the latter platform. AWS can provision cloud access cheaply and securely to aid in this goal.
Description of the target country and why it was recommended as a better opportunity than the other country
South Korea is a democratic country that it technologically savvy. It can continue to evolve as one of the more progressive nations by incorporating the virtue of e-medicine in its healthcare facilities. The market segmentation addressed in this document is South Korean healthcare with an AWS cloud. The target buyers are healthcare facilities and providers attempting to enable the usage of e-medicine in this country. The rationale for choosing this buyer is Business Strategy & Market Research, which sanctions the cloud and AWS in particular.
