Amelie

There has been much controversy concerning the French movie world, as it had always came up with rather strange motion pictures which seemed to attract the audience through unusual means. "Amelie" is one of the debated movies of the French cinematography, in which the weird and wonderful life of a young girl is presented in a charming manner.

Audrey Tautou indeed leaves a special touch on the movie by playing the role of Amelie Poulain magnificently. At first Amelie is presented as being a little young girl which is compelled to spend her childhood alone due to the fact that she has a disease which stops her from interacting with other children. Because of her condition, Amelie grows up to be a strange, yet charming, young woman.

The movie is clearly intended to be unique when considering the tagline "She'll change your life." Besides of presenting a whole new concept of motion picture, the producer Jean Pierre Jeunet presents the viewers with a whole new concept of lifestyle. One cannot possibly imagine living a life similar to Amelie Poulain, but at some point in the movie the viewers might tend to identify themselves with Amelie ot at least, with parts of her.

The fact that the movie had been a box office hit is mostly due to Jeunet, which, as usually, brings a different perception of ordinary life and, impressively, he manages to create a fabulous story from scratch. The movie is reported to have been the best selling French movie of all times and the French have been astonished by its expression means. There are several occurrences in the movie which take the development away from the common Hollywoodian films which are mostly following a predictable pattern.

One of the reasons for why Amelie, the motion picture, is different is because it is obvious that the producers did not actually intend to create a commercial movie. In fact, they've gone at creating a film that would succeed in expressing their exact feelings and exactly what they had in mind when planning to make the film.

Firstly, we have Amelie as a one of a kind child, and then as a one peculiar woman. Both of the characteristics are happening in a film that's different from the rest. These facts indicate that "Amelie" had been intended to stand out from all the movies that had preceded it and in the same time present the viewers with a new concept. People are lead in observing that the movie has had producers that not only think different, but who are accustomed to producing special films which would leave the audience thinking what they were about. Post-modernism touches are present all over the movie from the chain of events in Amelie's life to all the people that have specific 21st century estranged lives.

Jeunet exposes his weakness for perfect images as most of the shots in the movie create a magical world for the viewer with the streets, train station, and cars being clean and flawless. An example of Jeunet's clever thinking is when Amelie indentifies herself with the girl in the Renoir painting. Amelie observes that, like the girl in the center, she audience might not get too much attention from the audience. The fact that the filmmakers have chosen to highlight Amelie through the high performance cameras captivates the spectators that are sure to be amazed at the filming cliches.
