Teresi is not saying it is wrong to support one's country. He is not saying that patriotism is wrong or that people should not be proud of what their country means to those in the country and throughout the world. What he is emphasizing is that along with this patriotism comes a responsibility -- to treat the symbol of that country in the way it was expected to be treated by the founding fathers.
