For 6 years To who (position) did you report? President/owner
2. Describe your management style. I combine both transformational and servant management approaches. I intervened in areas that I was called to serve. I helped several companies recover from heavy debt and even increased their revenue two-fold. In addition, I was always handy to help other workers to improve their skills. In addition, I started a company that helped women to create employment and even build their own houses. 3. What was the toughest management issue you faced and how did you resolve it? It is when I was called on to provide guidance to a trust fund worth $360 million. I was to guide on all aspects of financial management and legal compliance. I was also required to negotiate returns and yields. I succeeded by mustering courage to face major challenges. I had to work, way past normal hours, just to achieve my goals. I consulted widely, and successfully vouched for sharing of resources with companies that operated with us. 4. What do you regard as your primary values? Why are they important to you? Integrity Success and honesty are two sides of the same coin. I succeeded in my activities as a leader because all the partners and clients I worked and interacted with trusted me. So they allowed sufficient me the operational space.
Commitment to Growth I always make effort to keep learning new things: since learning is a life-long process. I seek to grow my professional abilities and to stay posted on new and important developments. I discovered that if I was to maintain my professional designation, I had to keep learning, exploring and self critiquing.
Self-confidence My confidence fires me on. I stay alert and up to new challenges and tasks. I keep moving, even in the rare cases when I fall. I’m intrinsically motivated. I have no need for approval because I always check that what I do is what is best. I’m aware of my strengths and weaknesses and how they affect others. I differentiate what I can do from what I realistically can’t. 5. Describe your most satisfying experience as a volunteer. What made it satisfying? When was it? I am a member of the board on two aid organizations of international repute. The two are preoccupied with empowering vulnerable communities through education and development. My interaction with the said communities gives me a broader view of life. 6. What’s the best new idea you have come up with, developed, and implemented in the past five years? I started distribution of oil and gas in South Africa and U.S.A as a business I also pioneered a wide supply chain network across the borders so as to achieve the goals of the Fortune 100 companies globally. I crafted custom-made proposals that I shared with the executive teams that deal with customers. I further did a hands-on research by visiting the various countries with the companies’ presence and engineered custom solutions. 7. What task in the past five years has challenged you the most? My role as a leader in the multi-state construction firm dealing with federal level projects challenged me. My boldness helped me through, though. 8. What in your personal or professional life would connect you to the mission of the American Legion Auxiliary? The American Legion Auxiliary seeks to offer support to the American Legion. It does so by promoting quality life for the veterans, their families and military: while they are both abroad and at home. We act for God and country through providing education to the citizens, mentoring the youth promoting the patriotic spirit, peace, security and service as opposed to focusing on the self. I was actively involved in the Middletown YMCA as a member of the board and a donor. I began the Charter Award Scholarship Fund. I chaired the event every year. My mindset and style of dealing with issues makes me connect naturally to the American Legion Auxiliary. 9. How would you build relationships with The American Legion, our 600,000 members and a governing board of 62 members? Those who succeed in building relationships do not only consider the welfare of others but take action about it. Owing to my experience in dealing with various dynamic people and groups, I’m at an advantaged position to promote cohesion. 10. Anything else you’d like to add about why you should be selected for an interview? I learnt from my earlier portfolio as CEO and President of my company that engaging with the most important players of a company and embracing its philosophy helps in settling down sooner. When I joined my company, I employed the approach. It helped me to get to grips with everything in the company within two weeks
