Analysis of an Organizational Vision
Describe the company and its vision statement.
Toyota Motor Corporation, established in 1937, is an automotive company that has grown to become one of the biggest organizations in the world. Toyota designs, manufactures, assembles and retails vehicles in approximately 190 nations and regions across the globe. Toyota Motor Corporation is a multinational corporation with its main center of operations situated in Aichi, Japan. Since its establishment, the corporation had significantly grown and developed to become the largest car manufacturer in the world.
The vision statement of Toyota is:
“Toyota will lead the way to the future of mobility, enriching lives around the world with the safest and most responsible ways of moving people. Through our commitment to quality, constant innovation and respect for the planet, we aim to exceed expectations and be rewarded with a smile. We will meet our challenging goals by engaging the talent and passion of people, who believe there is always a better way” (Toyota Website, 2018).
Discuss the attributes that make the vision meaningful.
There are different attributes that make Toyota’s vision meaningful. The first part of the vision statement outlines that the corporation purposes to become the future leader in the automotive industry with respect to motor vehicles. Imperatively, a vision statement postulates the expected future position of a particular brand. The second section of the vision statement lays emphasis on the consumers of Toyota Corporation across the globe indicating that their safety is of great concern to the organization. What is more, the vision statement of the organization elucidates Toyota’s devotion and dedication to innovation, high standards of quality and as well as responsibility to the society and the environment. Finally, the statement also sheds light on the workforce of the organization. It demonstrates that the corporation has a significant belief in employing talented and passionate individuals who also have the belief in innovation.
An additional key attribute of the vision statement is the respect to the planet. The process for the development of an Environment Action Process starts with the parent company situated in Japan. Subsequent to every five years, Toyota Motor Corporation comes up with a global five-year environmental action plan. This plan has enabled the corporation to receive awards and honors of being socially and environmentally responsible. Most of all, at the core of the company’s vision statement, Toyota Corporation outlines that they purpose to surpass expectations and be rewarded with a smile. Basically, this indicates that Toyota endeavors to ensure that its consumers across the world are happy and content with the products and services rendered by the company.
Explain how the vision statement is appropriate for the organization and why the vision statement is appealing to stakeholders on both a cognitive and emotional level.
The vision statement outlined above is suitable for Toyota Corporation and at the same time appeals to the various stakeholders on both an emotional and cognitive level. First of all, with regard to employees who are key stakeholders of the company, Toyota requires the members of the their workforce to not only be talented in a cognitive sense but at the same time be passionate about the operations of the company and constantly seek better ways of undertaking things in the organization, which touches on their emotional levels. Secondly, with regard to the consumers, the company purposes to ensure that any of its business operations, products or services rendered significantly surpass their expectations in order to ensure that they are emotionally satisfied with smiles on their faces. In a cognitive sense, the company guarantees the various stakeholders that it will constantly lay emphasis on quality and continuous innovation.

Change is inevitable and is necessitated within organizations from time to time. Organizational change takes into account the process in which an entity transforms its structure, strategies, operational approaches, technologies, or organizational culture to facilitate change within the organization and the impacts of these changes on the entity (Palmer, Dunford, and Akin, 2016). The vision statement of Toyota Motors Corporation encourages organizational change. To begin with, the statement outlines that the organization is dedicated to not only quality but also continuous innovation. This is an indication that the vision of the organization inspires organization. This is in the sense that Toyota will be devoted to embracing and implementing the new innovations that come about as time progresses, for instance, through technological advancements in the automotive industry. In the contemporary business setting, organizations are required to undergo changes almost in an incessant manner in order to remain competitive in the marketplace. Through quality and constant innovation, this indicates that Toyota is ready to embrace and carry out changes within its business operations. In addition, the vision statement outlines that the organization will meet its goals and objectives through employee engagement of the personnel, who have the conviction that there is a better way at all times. This indicates that Toyota encourages organizational change by ensuring that its employees incessantly seek for better ways that can enable the company to accomplish the set goals and objectives.
Compare and contrast this vision to that of a successful vision in your field, industry, or organization. How do the attributes for a vision in your field or industry differ from those in other fields or industries?
The vision of Toyota Corporation can be compared to other successful visions in other fields. One of the most successful companies that has been guided by its corporate vision is Apple Inc. The vision statement of the company states:
“We believe that we are on the face of the earth to make great products and that’s not changing. We are constantly focusing on innovating. We believe in the simple not the complex. We believe that we need to own and control the primary technologies behind the products that we make, and participate only in markets where we can make a significant contribution. We believe in saying no to thousands of projects, so that we can really focus on the few that are truly important and meaningful to us. We believe in deep collaboration and cross-pollination of our groups, which allow us to innovate in a way that others cannot. And frankly, we don’t settle for anything less than excellence in every group in the company, and we have the self-honesty to admit when we’re wrong and the courage to change. And I think regardless of who is in what job those values are so embedded in this company that Apple will do extremely well” (Rowland, 2018).
One of the key aspects that are similar between Apple and Toyota is that both corporations constantly focus on innovation. Secondly, both companies clearly indicate that they are ready to take up change and encourage it within the organization amongst the labor force. In addition, both Apple and Toyota believe in having both passionate and talented employees regardless of the position in which they hold in the organization. However, there are key dissimilarities between the two companies in terms of their vision statements. First of all, Apple indicates that it is keen on making certain that it possesses and controls the technologies linked to the products manufactured and sold. Secondly, unlike Toyota who come up with numerous projects for various vehicles, Apple believe that they should focus on a very small number of projects that they deem meaningful and significant to them.
