Industry Analysis for Apple
The Apple began in the IT industry as a personal computer manufacturer with the Apple I series of computers in the 1970's. The company was not the first to design a personal computer, but it managed to revolutionize the home computing industry by releasing a personal computer that was designed for amateurs and not hobbyists and engineers (den Hartigh, Ortt, van de Kaa, & Stolwijk, 2016). This was in complete contrast to what other manufacturers were doing and this is what set the company apart from the rest. The company went further and developed personal computers that had a graphical user interface, which was unheard of during those times. This endeared the company to many home and business users who preferred to work on the Apple computers.
Apple has managed to transition itself from a purely hardware manufacturing company to a hardware and software company that revolutionizes the industry by releasing products that change the IT industry. The company currently deals in personal computers, phones, tablets, and laptops. All the products are integrated and come ready to use out of the box. The Apple products are considered superior and the company has managed to gain a huge following due to the nature of the products that it produces. The company is continuously innovating and releasing products in the market that meet the needs of the users now and in the future.
With the development of the first Apple PC, the company wanted to change how businesses used and interacted with computers. Having a graphical user interface encouraged more people to start using computers and this is how many businesses adopted and started using computers. Computers were made more people friendly and many people began using computers at work and at home. The business had to change how they worked and embrace technology. When the iPhone was launched in 2007, it brought into the business world something that had never been imagined before and forced businesses to change how they viewed mobility. It was now possible for employees to access, read and respond to emails on the go. This resulted in employees being able to access the office and work anywhere. Businesses had to create policies that supported mobility and technology is currently the backbone of many corporations (Alper, 2015). Cloud computing has become an in thing and businesses are embracing technology mainly been pushed by iCloud. The devices been developed by the company all have facilities for cloud storage and businesses are using these facilities to ensure that their applications are always available to their clients and employees.
IT is the backbone of Apple. It has played a key role from the inception of the company with the founders using Information Technology to create products that have changed how we operate and run businesses. The innovations that the company has launched have been fairly successful apart from a few that have not performed as well as the company had expected like the Apple Lisa. This computer was supposed to replace the Apple III, but it failed to attract and appeal to the market as expected. However, the company was able to develop and launch the Macintosh, which proved to be highly successful. The operating system developed for their personal computers has been well integrated and this has ensured that one can get the best performance from their computer. By understanding how well the components work with each other and using technology to its advantage, the company has created computers that are powerful, handle heavy applications, and are lightweight. The development of the iPhone was seen as a huge risk, but when the device was launched it became an instant success. However, this meant that the company had killed its own innovation of the iPod, which had successfully replaced the use of CD players.
