You are more likely to receive grants if you can write good proposals that provide a holistic description of the programs you run in your organization. However, it should be noted that you may have great writing skills, but fail in the overall design of the programs. Similarly, if the program is well designed but the proposal is written poorly, the chances of securing funding diminish. Well written proposals must be accompanied with well designed programs (Kansas State University, 2015).

A lot has come to light with regard to the way government agencies and foundations provide funding (The Kansas State University (2015). Finding funding agencies that cater for the needs of your type of organization is important. The format of the proposal and the amount that can be availed varies between organizations. One of the qualities of a good application for funding is sticking to the requirements of the organization. Generally, most funding organizations include the number of staff, the estimated target clients, and the objectives of your program, activities, schedules and calendars. The first step is to ensure that your organization fits the description of your intended funding agency in terms of the requirements (Kansas State University, 2015). Develop a checklist prior to writing. It helps you to focus your writing on the necessary elements of the grant writing proposal. It saves time and energy. Mark the elements you have addressed as you proceed with the writing (Kansas State University, 2015).
Use simple and plain language: It is a mistake to think that your funding agent will understand the technical jargon that you use at your place of work. Avoid using words that are too flowery. The objective is to highlight your concern and funding request clearly. Using simple language is better (Kansas State University, 2015).

Adhere to the length and format that's required. Some funding agencies impose such requirements (Kansas State University, 2015).

Do not appear desperate. Simply make a case for your need for funding. Sounding desperate in your writing is often construed or misconstrued to be a sign of organizational instability (Kansas State University, 2015).
