¶ … culmination of this class, the vital information that I now possess is the significance of racial, gender equality. What I have learnt thus far is the extent of inequality existing in the society and just how much this adversely impacts those affected. A good example is what the black community and the Muslim community are currently facing in their day-to-day lives in the world. With the continuous deaths of black people in spite of not having resorted to or engaged any illegal, undesirable activities, accentuates the extent of racial injustice.
In the same manner, the Muslim people constantly face challenges of being in fear of being criticized and being branded as terrorist or supporters of terrorist groups. Social Class & Poverty There were a number of interesting points in the video. One of them is the high proportion of poor residents living in suburbs in comparison to major cities. An interest aspect is the 65% rise of poor individuals in suburbs.
For instance, in the case of Scozzari in the video, one would not easily guess or know that she lives from paycheck to paycheck and also that she only has savings that can only sustain her for one week. Another interesting element to understand is that despite the fact that jobs are being created, they do not pay enough to make ends meet for a household (PBS NewsHour, 2014). In particular, this video did influence my current understanding of poverty.
Specifically, I have come to comprehend that simply because an individual has a job, a house and a car does not necessarily imply that they are not facing poverty at the moment. For instance, in the case of Scozzari, she is dependent on a government subsidy in order to pay for child care. I have come to understand that poverty is easily hidden and can be quite difficult to unearth (PBS NewsHour, 2014). References PBS NewsHour. (2014). Poverty Rates Surge in American Suburbs. YouTube.

As indicated in the video, the media showed numerous instances of pointing out elements that accentuated that every Muslim is a terrorist. This video mirrors the prevailing way in which racial inequality manifests in the society.
For instance, male Muslims constantly find it difficult to grow a beard without being considered proponents of ISIS or terrorist groups. In the same manner, several Muslims are afraid of practicing their faith because they might be branded as terrorists. One of the ways in which I have been socialized to deal with racial differences is embrace diversity and understand that different races have different beliefs and cultures (The Huffington Post, 2016). I believe there are ways that I can personally contribute to and advance racial justice in my community.
One of them is the promotion and encouragement of engagement. I believe that through engagement with each other and interracial dialogues and exchange of ideas will make it possible for us to perceive the core values that individuals of different races have. Therefore, this will become much clearer to see that we easily make assumptions regarding other races and carry unwanted prejudice.
For instance, in the video, through engagement and dialogue, it would become much clearer to understand that having the Quran and the prayer mat are not what made the individual a terrorist as these are items form a part of religious practice for the Muslims (The Huffington Post, 2016). This is accentuated in the fact that Justice Department and the Governor of North Carolina took legal action against each other over this issue.
This video elucidated the challenges faced by those who experience sex and gender discrimination. This.
