Creativity Report In reflection, I have learnt quite an ordeal in using the creative problem solving aspects. In undertaking this task, I found the demands of a creative role centered and founded on the principles of action learning, both unaccustomed and uncomfortable. As a result, taking this into consideration, I came to the realization that it was imperative for me to learn approaches that would assist me in developing a creative attitude to problem solving work.
In addition, I also had to be capable of recognizing when a creative approach is necessary and have the capacity to engage in a creative mode. In reflection, I will come to say that I agree with Steve Jobs when he says that creativity is simply the connection of things. Looking back, being creative is an aspect that just comes about on its own. This encompasses the connection of different experiences and thereafter coming up with a synthesis of new aspects (Magnan, 2016).
In particular, this course and activity has been constructively challenging with respect to my individual beliefs regarding what leadership is or more particularly creative leadership. In particular, I have come into association and appreciated the notions by Sternberg et al. (2004) on the three main kinds of creative leadership and it has comprehensively opened up my perspective on notions on creativity. I have learnt that creativity does not necessarily refuse prevailing paradigms and substitute them.
Rather, I have come to learn that it encompasses accepting and espousing the prevailing paradigms and therefore generating new ones. Therefore, creativity for me encompasses the generation and formation of new prospects with a better and rejuvenated comprehension of thinking. Through CPS, in expanding and extending my knowledge and understanding of creativity, I have come to the realization that people having dissimilar preferences and inclinations will create dissimilar notions. This, in particular, can be set into numerous contexts.
I have come to have the appreciation that every person had a differing perspective and standpoint. Therefore, I have come to learn that I ought not to be immensely assertive regarding my notions and creativities, but rather also take into consideration other people's notion and integrate them as this can generate new ideas as well (Carmeli et al., 2013). The greatest takeaway in this exercise and practice is that problem solving is intellectually and mentally demanding.
By attaining the know-how of how a person's brain thinks, and how such thinking is conveyed and translated into action as the external behavior that one expresses and shows, is considerably relevant to the creative problem solving process. Through these learnings, the knowledge attained enables me to be cognizant and mindful of my thinking preferences, and also when faced by circumstances whereby cognitive problem-solving processes are required, I would have the capacity to attain a poise in other areas. Another element I largely benefitted from is interaction with other people.
In this sense, I have been able to perceive and appreciate the various and differing thinking preferences that contrast from mine and as a result, I have been able to generate new pathways and connections in my brain. I also have the conviction that this will enable me to be more creative in the forthcoming periods (Isen et al., 1987). Another element that I have learnt is the different blocks and hindrances to creativity. One of them is making assumptions.
For instance, assuming that my perspectives and points-of-view are right and the differing ones are wrong, can act as an obstacle to creativity. Another hindrance is following the rules. Creativity can never prevail if rules are incessantly followed. We would have never progressed and advanced up until this point in time. In addition, in order to be creative, it is imperative to utilize imagination and intuition and stop being over dependent on logic.
In addition, in this practice, I have come to learn that the fear of failure is a great hindrance to creativity. Failure should be perceived as a lesson learnt and therefore for creativity to prevail, it is necessary to take risks. Another element I have learnt and come to agree with is that conceptual blocks refrain and restrict the manner in which an issue is delineated and restrict the number of alternative solutions considered to be pertinent.
Another problem to creative thinking is vertical thinking, which is basically delineating a problem or an issue in one manner devoid of taking into consideration alternative perspectives. More often than not, we often face obstacles in problem solving for the reason that we fail to have a lateral way of thinking where we can come up with different ways of perceiving a problem and as a result come up with several solutions. It is also important not to make the.
