Running head: LETTER TO THE FRENCH AMBASSADOR
1
Dear Sir/ Madam,
Request for Medical Residency in France
It is with great zeal that I present my request for a medical residency program with focus ophthalmology in your country. I am a hard working student who recently qualified in my examination, and I would wish to pursue my studies in France.
As a young student, one of my teachers asked me what my aspirations were when I grew up. After pondering over the question for an extended period, I responded that I wanted to be a doctor or a mechanic. At that small age, my options were limited, as I did not have a lot of knowledge. As I grew up studying in different schools, my career aspirations broadened to include the fields of engineering, French language, art, and education. I finally decided on taking a career in the field of medicine even though the other areas seemed attractive. My decision was based on mainly my passion for service, and this field was the best I could think of that I would offer invaluable help to the society. I enrolled in medical school, an educational experience that has been challenging and has made me learn the skills of timekeeping and working smart to achieve my objectives. Now, I seek training in an ophthalmology program that will allow me to put my skills to use and to prepare me for the long career ahead of me.
My experiences have prepared me to be successful in ophthalmology. At the university, I involved myself in healthcare related activities such as debates, volunteering for clinical trials, taking part in medical camps, and attending seminars related to the emergence of new antibiotic strains. I have engaged my friends about their habits of taking excessive alcohol and how they can modify such behavior. Such experiences have helped me improve my interpersonal skills on how to engage other people in conversations. With the experiences, I have gained the essential skills that I will need when engaging patients in a hospital-based setting.
During one of my holidays away from school, I managed to work with a group of French expatriates working in a nearby clinic where I had volunteered. My work mainly involved filling in paperwork for the professionals to help them serve the patients quickly. I managed to learn a lot from the doctors, both on the social and professional areas. I engaged them on different aspects of the French culture especially the language, art, way of life, and monuments with the Eiffel Tower standout among many other things. This re-ignited my love for the French language, and I tried to learn a few words from them. The experience sparked some interest in me of someday being able to work in France to interact with more people like the ones I had just met for a brief period.
I possess the skills needed to excel in the ophthalmology field because I am a compassionate individual who is not just fascinated about treating eye conditions of people. My values dictate that I should always strive to interact with my patients and work hard to ensure they get the proper care that they deserve to receive. Additionally, I believe in empowering patients with the necessary information regarding their condition and the care that they receive and that I improve the outcome of the treatment therapy and care plan. While a residency in ophthalmology will be extremely challenging, I am not intimidated by the task, but instead, I am anticipating it. My drive for providing responsible care will make me a valuable addition to your team, as I will also strive to share knowledge with my superiors and colleagues. Armed with my educational training, I am prepared to achieve my career goals and social aspirations by pursuing medicine in France. Kindly help me realize my dream by studying in your country.
