Forensics the Two Paragraphs Are Very Different,

The two paragraphs are very different, not only in tone, but in the style of writing. The first paragraph is a peaceful letter which expresses gratitude whilst the second paragraph is very angry and critical. They are also very different in their length, where the first paragraph was very concise and straight to the point. However, both paragraphs seem to share the topic of marital or family issues. Because of their different writing styles, I believe that the two paragraphs were written by two different people.

At first, after I read through the two paragraphs, I believed that they were written by the same author. However, after much analysis, in my opinion, the two paragraphs are written by two different people. I initially thought that they shared the same author because of the last line in the first paragraph, and the first line of the second paragraph. This is where a dash was used to insert a thought instead of parentheses, which would also suffice. This writing style lead me to believe that the two shared the same author, however other aspects of the paragraphs differed that the use of the dashes were not enough.

The use of the dashes, when examined closely, was also not used in the same grammatical way. The first one was used to emphasize and the second one was to explain. The use of the dash was consistent in terms of punctuation; however it was not the same in terms of content. This proves a difference between the two in terms of writing style.

The first paragraph was very straight forward and it did not need to drag on or linger on a topic. It was concise and it expressed all the thoughts in just a few sentences. The second paragraph felt the need to explain every little thing; this might have been because it is an angry letter, and is only like that because of the heavier emotional condition the author was under while writing it; however there were no consistencies in the use of words and even in the values of either paragraph.

The first sentence of the first paragraph described a past event in this way: "…this past Sunday night" which grammatically, seems quite awkward. However, the second paragraph described a past event this way: "…the other night." I believe that maybe if the two were written by the same author, the second paragraph would state the sentence in this manner: "the past night," instead of using the word other. The two paragraphs did not show consistencies in use of words. The first paragraph used the word "nor" when explaining what his/her family would not do or believe. The second paragraph had a similar sentence, yet differentiated in structure. Instead of using the word "nor," "and" was used as the conjunction. this is found in the second sentence.

The first paragraph had long sentences, and even one run-on sentence which could have used a comma or a semi-column. The entire paragraph consisted of just three sentences, each with its own thought. Whilst the second paragraph had very short sentences, and the author would even chop-up sentences with the use of a comma. There were no other punctuation marks in the first paragraph other than periods and the two dashes. The thoughts in the sentences of the second paragraph also continued on to the next sentence.
