Diseases Risk Assessments
Breast cancer
Breast cancer is a type of cancer that originates from the inner tissues of the breast. There are two significant categories of breast cancer: Ductal carcinomas and Lobular carcinomas. Ductal carcinomas start from the breast tubes while the lobular carcinomas originate from the lobules, which produce milk in mothers. There are other rare types of breast cancers, which originate from other parts of the breast. Breast cancer can spread to other parts of the breast or remain only in the infected area. Breast cancer although common in women has been known to be found in men too. Women have a higher chance of contracting the disease as compared to men.
Risk factors
Cancer in general has many risk factors. These factors are highly dependent on the position, and the lifestyle of an individual as it enhances the susceptibility of the person. However, it is worth noting that not all people with risk factors attain the disease. The risks include
Family background: this risk factor is one that a person cannot control. An individual who has a close relative suffering of cancer (in both the present and past) may contract the disease.
Genes: some people are born with defective genes, which play a leading role in rising chances of getting the disease.
Childbirth: barren women and those who get children after the age of 30 may get the disease
Alcohol use: alcohol consumption should be at least 1 / 2 glasses a day. More than that increases the risk of the disease.
Hormone replacement: this is a therapy, which increases the chances of developing the killer disease.
Radiation: it is a therapy top various disease, but a high risk for the killer disease as it makes the body weak.
Lifestyle choices to decrease risk factors
1) Alcohol intake is one of the risks that increase chances of breast cancer. In this regard, it is imperative to ensure that alcohol intake does not go beyond the limit, which is two glasses per day.
2) Therapies that involve high use of chemicals and radiation should be minimized at all costs.
3) It is beneficial to ensure that I obtain children at the right age, which is at the bracket of 25-30 years.
Diabetes
Diabetes: it is a type of metabolic disease that affects the level of sugar in the body. In this case, the individual suffers from high levels of sugar that are a result of insulin imbalances. There are two types of diabetes.
Diabetes type 1: this results from a low level of insulin hormone in the blood. An individual cannot balance sugar levels.
Diabetes type 2: this type results from poor response to insulin. In this case, the body is termed resistant to insulin thus cannot control the level of sugar once it has risen.
Risk factor
There are risk factors that contribute significantly towards the development of this disease. Such factors include family medical background relating to sugar related diseases, genetic composition of a person, and environmental factors. However, an individual can work on protective behaviors that can help in reducing risk factors. Such trends that can help reduce this risk include intake of a proper diet and performing regular exercises. Behavior such as smoking and intake of chemicals can be a considerable contribution toward the development of the disease.
