Both antecedents included a low attention condition. Both consequences include some form of attention. Emily's parents are divorced and she has two older brothers. Emily may not be getting what she feels is enough attention at home. She seems to bite other children in order to receive attention.
Throughout the day give Emily one on one attention from one of the teachers.
I expect Emily to not bite anymore and be shown the attention she feels she needs.
Emily may continue to act out because she is not receiving the attention she wants at home.
I would schedule one on one reading time with an assistant. This would give her some individual attention. I would also have a parent meeting and inform them of the situation. ("Behavior unraveled," 2011)
Consequence
How would you change the consequence?
What do you expect to happen and why?
What else might happen and why?
What strategies would you implement and why? Include references!
In the past Emily was verbally told not to bite and then she was also immediately picked up and held or moved to another location and given individual attention.
Emily will be told not to bite that it hurts. I would also have Emily check on the child she bit and have her tell them she is sorry. She will then be taken to a time out chair. When she is done in time out she will once again be told that biting is not ok and that it hurts.
I expect Emily to learn that this behavior is not acceptable and that she must have time to reflect the hurtful behavior against another child. I expect her to learn that she will not get individual attention like she was before by biting others.
