Beliefs / Views with Regard to: Race, Class, Ethnicity and Gender What views, beliefs do you hold right now with regard to race, class, ethnicity and gender. Please identify the influences that lead you to these beliefs. The different opinions about: race, class, ethnicity and gender are views that have been passed down from one generation to the next. This is problematic, because the idea of separating people in different groups is Neanderthal and barbaric.

As this has been the basic justification for: various wars, genocides and other atrocities that have been committed, by one group of people against another. As a result, humanity needs to look beyond the physical differences that separate everyone and focus on the character of the individual. If this kind of approach can be taken, it will slowly help to address the various divisions around the world.

The different influences that had an impact upon these views were: a series of events and experiences that would have a profound effect upon my life. What happened was during childhood, I was exposed to the typical racial stereotypes that you would see on TV and in society. However, the genre of television was changing, as these different stereotypes were being shattered by groundbreaking shows (though the broadcasting of programs of one ethnic / gender group doing the same thing as others).

This is important, because it would have an influence upon these views, by questioning the typical stereotypes within society. At the same time, the interaction with various ethnic and gender groups would help to build upon these ideas. This was changing my overall racial views, by helping me to see someone from different backgrounds as more than just another person. Once this took place, it meant that the old atypical attitudes about race and gender would shift. As I was quickly beginning to realize that these stereotypes were simply wrong.

This is important, because it would help to push for changes in my overall views on equality as time would go by. Throughout the course of my education, the different historical figures that were studied would have an impact upon these beliefs. In this case, the various challenges that these individuals were exposed to and their ability to overcome them, showed me how the views of the past were incorrect. Where, the accomplishments of person will not be dependent upon: the racial, ethnic or gender group they were from.

Instead, it is their overall state of mind and ability to overcome the obstacles that they are facing, that will determine how successful they will be in the future. This is important, because it shows how the lives of a host of individuals, from a variety of backgrounds, would have an impact upon shaping these views. When you step back and analyze the underlying influences on my racial / gender beliefs, it is clear that there are a number of different factors that would influence them.
