ACIST CVi Angiographic Imaging System

The ACIST CVi is an angiographic imaging system used to diagnose diseases and treat over 15 million patients globally. The ACIST CVi is able to simplify a contrast injection using all procedure ranging from small injections for a coronary artery to peripheral vasculature and a large volume injection for ventricles, which consequently enhance efficiency, safety, image quality, and control. The CVi system assists in improving procedural efficiency and image quality. Moreover, the system minimizes a radiation exposure as well as reducing the patient contrast dose. The CVi system also helps in reducing time to carry out imaging procedure, which is beneficial to both healthcare professionals and patients. (Ferebee, & Scoville, 2009).

Objective of this paper is to investigate the ACIST CVi imaging system and its benefits for the Invasive Cardiac Catheterization.

Benefits of the ACIST CVi imaging system for the Invasive Cardiac

The ACIST CVi is very effective for an invasive Cardiac Catheterization. A Cardiac catheterization refers to an invasive imaging that allows a healthcare professional to evaluate patients' heart. In other words, the cardiac catheterization is a medical procedure to diagnose as well as treating some heart problems. Physicians can use the cardiac catheterization to carry out a treatment because it is an effective method to view blockages within the coronary arteries since it delivers little or no pain for patients. However, a patient may experience soreness when a doctor inserts catheter within the blood vessel. Nevertheless, it is very rare for the cardiac catheterization to cause a serious complication.

Angiographic imaging system is an innovative method to acquire medical images using a rapid and rotation imaging camera. Based on the rotational device of the Angiographic imaging, the imaging can be visualized from different angles and from different segments. In essence, the rotation arcs are predefined at 60 degrees at anterior oblique and 25 degree caudal orientation, however, the Angiographic imaging is able to cover 120 degree able to deliver high quality imaging in a matter of seconds. Typically, the Angiographic is used to identify and visualize peripheral vessel.

A report carried out by Business Wire (2015) reveals that ASCIT CVi is an effective tool that delivers a unique need for clinicians, and patients. For example, the technology provides the following system benefits: The ACIST CVi provides an easy and simplicity as well as innovative experience designed to provide versatility for clinicians and freedom for patients. Contrarily, the traditional contrast injection is a hand man-manifold where its image quality is dependent on a contrast media administered at a steady rate and the proper moment. However, acquisition of its quality imaging is difficult and is dependent on operator's experience.

However, the ACIST CVi provides an effective workflow and procedural flexibility for both vascular and cardiac angiography. More importantly, the ACIST CVi can assist in reducing amount of equipment used in the procedure room and shorten the treatment procedure for patients suffering from a kidney problem. The ACIST CVi also delivers precision and control. It also enhances reliability and trust through innovative ACIST systems. (National Institutes of Health, 2012).

Ferebee, & Scoville, (2009) identify different benefits associated to the ACIST CVi, and one of the benefits of the machine is that it can be used across a full range of diagnostic and interventional procedures ranging from smaller vessels that include coronaries and large volume injections within the peripheral vasculature, and coronaries. The ACIST CVi assists in reducing the volume of contrast dosage delivered to patients by 28%. Moreover, its contrast usage is reduced by 40%. A set up time and procedure time are reduced by 31% compared to manual injection. The ACIST also facilitates a contrast injection through a smaller catheter.

The cost saving for the hospital is one of the major benefits of the ACIST systems. Its usage can assist a lab to reduce a contrast usage by 27% by more than 113,000 ml. A contrast usage reduction is attributed to an efficient use of the contrast procedures. Additionally, the ACIST system provides the advantages of a multi-use syringe which can serve from one case to another case, typically, up to five cases. The overall process has also assisted in a significantly reduction of the contrast waste leading to a significant cost reduction. The ACIST also allows physicians to use the 4 F catheters for a diagnostic procedures instead of 6 F catheters. Without an application of ACIST, a hospital is required to use the 6 F catheters, which can lead to increase costs of hospital operations by $300,000 based on the device expenses. However, the use of the ACIST can remove device expenses making a healthcare organization to enjoy a reduction in cost of operations by over 99%. (Chahoud, Khoukaz, El-Shafei, et al. 2001).

The use of the ACIST also enhances patients' recovery time from 6 hours to 2 hours, which has significantly increased patients' satisfaction. Moreover, a reduction in recovery time can help hospital labs in delivering a greater flexibility. The length of patient's stay can also improve by 28%. The new device can also increase an overall staff satisfaction because the overtime of staying with patients late in the night is eliminated. Despite the benefits associated to the cardiac catheterization, its risks include infection, and bleeding when inserting the catheter.
