Now that credit card abuse is rampant and the sub-prime mortgage crisis taught about foolish borrowing, Christians understand the importance of Biblical messages regarding personal financial management.

Moreover, Luke points out that Jesus spoke these words about foolish spending while also preaching the importance of being reborn in the spirit. Being reborn in the spirit requires a whole new outlook on life, which entails new approaches to work and money.

Money is not just for buying things; Jesus teaches that saving money is a type of spiritual service. The saver trusts in the future, rather than squandering money on needless material goods. To use money wisely is to respect the fruits of our labor.
Individuals who understand the limits of their individual incomes will be able to follow the advice outlined in Luke 14:28-30. Earnings should be used to pay necessary daily expenses such as food, shelter, and clothing. A good portion of earnings shall be donated in the form of charity, in the spirit of Christ. Another portion of earnings is used for personal savings. Most importantly, the individual should never buy too much on credit.
