Blogging
Blogs have become very important to all types of organizations over the past couple of years. At first, they were only of interest on a personal level, as one person would blog about his or her daily or weekly activities for friends, family and other people who were interested in the topics. Then, others started getting interested in blogging, in order to reach out to others who had similar interests to them. More recently, corporations, businesses, nonprofits and public organizations have joined in on the blog writing, as well. In fact, people who go to a Web site, be it for a small business from whom they wish to buy a product, or a school which they or their children attend, they look for the blog. That's because blogs give readers a good idea of what the person, business or organization is all about. Blogs also provide a lot of great free information that would be difficult to get any other way.
There are blogs on every different topic imaginable, because people have interests in everything possible. That's why there are many different blogs that could be of interest to a public school. Schools, especially libraries, want to keep up-to-date on the latest educational news across the country. By reading the Education Week http://www.edweek.org/, Web site and corresponding blogs, they can get all the news that's fit to print on education and more. The Web site offers information on news, multimedia, events, editorials and the marketplace, and the host of blogs cover topics such as curriculum, educational policies and politics, latest digital information, interviews with school leaders, k-12 information, teacher beat and guest blogs as well. Once finishing all these blogs, then pass them around to others.
If a school wants to keep up-to-date on all the latest books, multimedia and technology for children and teens, then a suggestion is the School Library Journal blog, which can be found at http://www.schoollibraryjournal.com/blogs.html. It includes library news, reviews, articles, technology, RSS feeds, and of course its own blog. It is a very easy way to spend a few minutes each day to read about the latest school literature and what is happening across the world in books, magazines and technology.
"Pop Goes the Library" Blog http://www.popgoesthelibrary.com / is a fun and informative blog for any library that wants to make their blog pop. The writers of the blog are public, school, and academic librarians who believe libraries can learn from and use Pop Culture to improve their collections, services, and public image. They love TV, music, the movies, comic books, anime, magazines, sports, tech, and oh yeah: reading. This is a wonderful blog that is jam packed with years of back blogs about myriad topics. It will keep the reader having a good time for hours, and will give them some more things to write about in their own blogs. The blog includes interviews with some interesting people in and out of the library and school systems and even the "Library Elf," different ways to use libraries for the holidays, fun things to do and, of course, about some of the latest books on the shelf that are important to read on education or for the classroom curriculum.
