Blue Moon case study the authors attract the reader's attention in three ways: empathy, information, and a set of facts that would relate to most any business. The empathy came from Kathy and Jim's experiences and challenges, the information from revenues, and the set of facts and utilization process something many organizations deal with regularly.

The case is presented in an organized and outlined fashion in that the reader is hooked with the opening, then given the background, a set of challenges, pertinent financial information, issues from the stakeholder's perspective, and then financials. The subtitles (e.g. "Once in a Blue Moon") were both humorous and relevant to the issue. The case writer provided enough details to guide several decision-making processes, but was not adamant (as in a text) about the way x or y should be done. The case study format allowed the reader to glean information, to amass the situation, and then to come up with ways to make better decisions. The puzzlement and provocative nature of the story comes from the questions that are asked, the ideas presented, and knowing that each individual reader will interpret the items differently (Kammermeyer and Naumes, 2009).

Part 3 -- The biography of Elting on the corporate site was concise and factual, giving more information about qualifications. However, when one reads the more objective sources, one finds that it is Elting's personal views and style, her modus operendi, that is most important and sets her apart. In most of the cases, gender plays very little role in the prose, other than "Women Worth Watching" -- which tries to focus on success stories to inspire other women leaders.
