¶ … Causes of Heart Attack Heart attack and the relating diseases are some of the major killers in the United States. Heart attack cases turn out repeatedly and have killed hundreds of thousands of people each year, not to mention leaving the survivors in uncomfortable life and growing risk for its recurrence.

A regular fact that explains about how the attack happens is about the abnormal blood circulation in the vessels. Human body consists of thousands of arteries and intersection that needs to keep clean to allow the blood to run smoothly, supplying enough oxygen throughout the body. In one way or another, the minimum space of the artery does not allow normal passage since the arteries get partially blocked by plaque substances.

The article "Arterial Disease" explains that atherosclerosis, the artery disease, most commonly is caused by the accumulation of substances such as "fatty substances, cholesterol, cellular waste, calcium, and fibrin." Those kinds of materials do not simply present and clog the blood vessels at one time, but they build up as there are more fat or cholesterol materials intake gets higher. The substances occupy the space along the inner surface of the arteries, and sometimes tear up and drifted within the blood circulation, then finally accumulate somewhere in the blood vessel.

The more blocks occur, the more chances that the heart will stop and cause heart attack. Failure to supply fresh blood for few minutes may cause the muscles to get damaged, and in a severe case, it may cause the heart to stop for good.

Other cases and diseases that commonly lead to heart attack are high blood pressure, high cholesterol levels and the clogs caused by chemical substances found in cigarettes. Both active and passive smokers bear the risk of suffering future heart problem, if the habit continues.

According to Texas Heart Institute (2002), high blood pressure has a great contribution and increases the risk factor to trigger the attack. As one problem or another occurs, the blood circulation does not work properly. As the consequence of clogged blood movement in the "very small arteries," the heart has to work hard to pump and force the stream forward and supply thoroughly to all parts of the body.
