It has become obvious that violence is damaging society and that large numbers of people suffer everyday as a result of it. Various institutions are actively involved in stopping violence from happening in the areas where it is most likely to occur. Evan A.

Hoffman is certain that there are presently efficient methods of fighting violence, but, that the general public is reluctant to put theory to practice when regarding the issue. Normally, violence is present in countries with a favorable environment for it. States with a fragile economy and a fragile political system are less capable of dealing with matters like violence. International organizations such as the United Nations have often gotten involved in the prevention of violence and in the preservation of peace.

In spite of the fact that these actions should have a benefic effect on the states where they are put to practice, they occasionally prove to be inefficient. Furthermore, there have been cases when violence perpetrators have been invigorated by actions being performed against them. (PREVENTING POLITICAL VIOLENCE: Towards a Model for Catalytic Action) The UN or various NGOs might regard violence prevention as something that needs long periods of time to be planned.

In spite of the fact that the planning is indeed effective, there is a risk that the crisis situations needing assistance would become critical until someone actually decides to take actions in order to correct them. Thus, violence has to be retaliated with quick-action. Considering the fact that a violence catalyst cannot be thought of immediately after it occurs, organizations need to develop an agenda for a successful method of fighting and preventing violence.

Residents from the countries where violence is encouraged by different factors need to receive solid information concerning violence and its aftermath. Also, those supporting violence need to be presented with alternatives that would partially solve their problems. Even with the fact that outside organizations can get involved in preventing violence, they have limited access to the victims and to the persons responsible for committing violence.

Thus, educational programs need to be developed, in order for those in crisis areas to learn that violence has limited and short lived efficiency, and that it does not bring any advantages to those resorting to it. A number of organizations often fail in preventing violence because their passion overcomes their sense of reality. They tend to make promises which they are not certain that they will be able to keep. While this might.
