¶ … Healthy Snack
TO EAT CREEPY SPIDERS!
Have you ever had a devilled spider egg? They're perfect for Halloween, but they are a healthy choice any time of the year -- and great for scaring your mom! All it takes to make a devilled spider egg is one hard boiled egg and one carefully sliced kalamata olive. It's nutritious and fun!
Instructions: Hard-boil the eggs, and slice them carefully in half, removing the yolks. Mash up the yolks, adding mustard, mayonnaise, salt, pepper, and paprika. Then fill the egg whites with a dollop of this mixture. To make the spiders, carefully slice a kalamata olive in half. One half will be the body. Thin-slice the other half into eight segments for the legs, and place carefully on top of the devilled eggs!

Safety Precautions
Remember to wash your hands before handling food intended for small children! You must wash your hands for at least 20 seconds, with soap and water, to prevent contamination. The most common cause of foodborne illness is viral, and this can help to prevent it.
Remember that cold food should be stored below 41 degrees Fahrenheit and hot food should be cooked above 135 degrees Fahrenheit to avoid the possibility of food-borne illness.
Small children are at risk from choking hazards. Children ages 3-4 may have all their teeth but are still learning to chew, and are often easily distracted while eating which adds to the risk. Large pieces of food can block the throat, especially tubular-shaped items like hot dogs, link sausage, whole carrots, grapes, or frozen banana pieces. Small pieces of hard-to-chew food can block the threat, such as nuts, raw vegetables like broccoli or cauliflower, or hard fruit with peels like crisp apples. Firm foodstuffs can slide down the throat blocking the throat, like whole kernel corn or peanuts. Dry hard food can also be swallowed whole even if hard to chew, including popcorn, hard pretzels, or tortilla chips. Sticky food can block the airway through sticking, such as peanut butter consumed by itself, processed cheese, marshmallows, or fruit roll-ups. And hard to chew foods which are fibrous or tough can also get lodged in the throat, such as steak or fibrous meat, beef jerky, or bagels.
To avoid choking hazards, always supervise eating, decrease the distractions from outside, serve food in bite-size pieces or thin slices, cook food until it is soft and always steam vegetables, and keep the portion size small.
Common childhood allergies include lactose intolerance (milk and dairy products), gluten sensitivity (wheat and gluten products), nut allergies (most commonly peanuts), and shellfish (including lobster). Most of these items are easily replaced, or an alternative can be offered.
