Children's Defense Fund-Purpose Needs Statement:
Cook County Children with Disability Rights Education and Defense Fund
Cook County Children with Disability Rights Education and Defense Fund (CDRED) is a non-profit advocacy organization working tirelessly for the past 25 years to ensure a level playing field for the education and rights of all children with disabilities, including, but not limited to, both physical, mental and learning disabilities. Our organization champions for rights and policies, which allow children with recognized disabilities to receive the help, support and education they need. We also offer support for the family members and educational staff involved with these children. In addition to supporting the educational rights of children with disabilities in Cook County, we also offer protection and help for children with disabilities that are abused and neglected. The Cook County CDRED advocates for children with disabilities residing within Cook County.
CDRED Mission Statement
Cook County Children with Disability Rights Education and Defense Fund believes that all children are special, especially children with disabilities. It is our goal and mission to treat these individuals fairly and to afford them every right any child would have, disabled or not. We believe in these children receiving a healthy and moral start, as well as offer spiritual assistance to families in need. With the help of caring families within the community, the CDRED helps hundreds of children with disabilities each year.
The CDRED is a strong and effective voice for children with disabilities in Cook County. These children cannot vote, lobby or speak for themselves and it is our duty to do it for them. We pay close attention to children with disabilities in poverty-stricken families, as these families typically cannot afford the much-needed services and may not know where to look for help. The Cook County CDRED was formed in 1985 and is a private, non-profit organization supported by foundation and grants, as well as several individual donations annually.
