Christian Worldview
What is a worldview? Define what the term "worldview" means. Use descriptive phrases to support your definition. (25-50 words)
A worldview is a personal set of principles and philosophies that shape a person's outlook on life and inform his or her values and beliefs. Often, it provides direction for everyday actions and life decisions, as well as appropriate conduct with others.
Articulate the biblical/Christian Worldview (and two scriptures) for each of the following:
The Question of Origin - (Genesis 1:27, Moses 1:27-41) The Christian worldview of the origin of man is that God created man in his own image and likeness. Man was produced to have dominion over all living things upon the earth. The bible refers to the origin of other living things as being "spoken" into existence. But in the creation of man, God did so with great personal thoughtfulness and pondering over his intention and purpose (Bonner, 2011).
The Question of Identity - (John 1:21, 2 Timothy 1:7) The Christian worldview of identity contends that all mankind are God's children and he is their heavenly father. The word "Christian" means to be an imitator of Jesus Christ who is God's only begotten son and who he gave in a ransom sacrifice for man's sin (Bonner, 2011). Christians are to follow Christ's example and be obedient to God. They have been endowed with love, power and a sound mind from the Creator in order to accomplish this task.
3. The Question of Meaning/Purpose -- (Ephesians 2:10, 1 John 2:17) The Christian worldview defines man's purpose as to serve God and "do good works." It is a Christian's obligation to spread the good news of the kingdom. Ultimately, it is following God's will -- not man's -- that gives meaning to life, advances God's divine purpose for mankind, and protects mankind from greater suffering.
4. The Question of Morality - (Psalm 119:9), 2 Timothy 3:16-17) The Christian worldview of morality is that moral standards flow from God who is eternal and unchanging (Bonner, 2011). Because mankind inherited sin and cannot be 100% flawless in determining right and wrong, the Bible is to be used as a handbook for moral conduct. God's inspired word is thought to provide the blueprint for leaving a morally clean, Christian life which is required of all those seeking favor in the Lord.
5. The Question of Destiny -- (John 14:6, Philippians 3:18-19) The Christian worldview of destiny is that Christians can look forward to an eternal, spiritual life in heaven without pain and suffering, so long as they follow Christ's example and demonstrate obedience to God.
Part Three: How might/should a biblical worldview influence the way you:
1. & #8230;think about, treat, and speak to others on a daily basis?
A Christian worldview of how people should treat each other would be influenced by scriptures such as John 13:34-35 in which Jesus Christ indicated that his true followers would be identified by their love for one another. A biblical worldview encourages people to consider the great love that God has for them and all the ways he extends forgiveness and patience to those exercising faith in him. Luke 10:27 encourages Christians to "love thy neighbor as thyself." This principle suggests that tenderness, kindness and love should be shown to others in thought, word, and deed just as God shows it to his children.
